The word just went out that the game is officially a sell out, but standing room tickets being sold at 6. It warms the heart to think that we will have 6 sell outs this season, when you think back on the good (and even some great) teams that we had who played in Andrews and then the BenJo to crowds in the hundreds at best. Basketball wasn't accepted well over the years in our area, even though there were some teams and players who were as good as any. This can now be said, though: THERE IS NO BETTER VENUE FOR BIG TIME COLLEGE BASKETBALL THAN WOFFORD. Starting with the cost; then the parking; the facility; the view lines; the concessions and costs; the home town atmosphere; and the player's friendliness to the kids after the game.
For the past 10-12 years Wofford has put a great product on the floor. With this season not yet finished, we have averaged over 20 wins per season in the past ten seasons. We don't have players who pass through and use Wofford as a means to become a pro. We have kids who work hard in the classroom and go on to productive careers (see the where are they now section of the media guide). They appear in public and do good works to make the community a better place. When they leave they are proud of Wofford and eager to return.
It is not far fetched to hope that in years to come we can sell 2,500 season tickets and make games against rivals a tough ticket to obtain. In many ways the basketball program gives us much more exposure than football ever can. The Southern Conference this year has four teams ranked high enough that our league teams do not drop in the ratings when playing each other. If the league could possibly keep that up and have another couple of teams get a little better the possibility of the SoCon becoming a two bid league would be huge as far as the money to the conference.
