Won our final feel-good game to go to 8-7, before beginning conference play. Hopefully we can put what we have learned to good use against SoCon opponents, beginning at home vs. WCU Jan. 10 at 6 p.m., on ESPN+. https://woffordterriers.com/boxscore.as ... ll&id=4404

8 wins before the conference play is not too bad, though I think the team probably feels it should have more...we had chances. But a brand new season starts Thursday and everyone is 0-0. We are definitely capable of winning some games in this conference this season.

Lopsided win over WCU in first conference game! Wanink sets single game scoring record, returns to top form. Strong team rebounding. Green 7 rebounds, 10 assists, 0 turnovers, wow. Next game at home vs. UNCG Jan. 12, 2 pm, ESPN 3.

Ladies win 93-66! 2-0 in the conference after winning just three conference games a year ago. 10-7 overall equaling last season’s win total (10-20 last season). 8-0 at home. But now comes a challenge. The ladies have a three game road trip coming up featuring games at historically strong Chattanooga and ETSU, two team the Lady Terriers always struggle with. I will say that no matter what the result, you can see growth and improvement in the program under Jimmy Garrity. The team has more confidence and plays with more energy.

We shot and handled the ball extremely well. Offensive movement excellent, esp. McDavid. Green had ten more assists. Our D was also pretty good and we held them to a low shooting percentage. However, we were out rebounded (and still won, which we have not done this year); we must rebound better and more aggressively and consistently - our smallest player, Cairo Booker, led the team with 8 rebounds. We will not beat the good teams, especially on the road, until we are able to chin up and compete for the ball; we have the size and depth to do better.

Hope Jackie Carman's apparent injury is not serious.

And just like that, a lot of air has once again been let out of our balloon. Second leading scorer Jackie Carmen is out indefinitely with an injury. Not only do we lose a really good player, a possible SoCon freshman of the year in fact, but our depth is very much compromised by this,as is our preferred fast style of play. If it weren’t for bad luck this pro-gram would have no luck at all. I feel bad for Jackie and bad for Coach Garrity and the Lady Terriers. This sucks.

Way too early to sound so hopeless, although we have apparently had injuries, esp. to guards. We still have far more depth, especially inside, than we have had in a while, including not long ago when we had only six healthy players, period. And Wanink is back and playing great. The hardest part is that injuries disrupt our chemistry and speed of play, which was coming together, and makes us develop some new combinations. For example, Green has been flourishing in a new role and now her role will have to be adjusted.

We have many healthy players playing well and getting better. We still have a great chance to be successful.

Unfortunately injuries are part of any sport. 'Next man up' as MA used to say. Can't dwell on an injury and let it get you down. Move on and try to forget it. Although I agree it is hard to deal with when one of your key players goes down. Just have to do your best. Terriers are hanging in there though at the end of the half

Ladies lost a tough one in Chattanooga tonight to the Mocs 89-82. Would Carmen had made the difference? Unfortunately that is something we can never know. I have to give the ladies credit though. They battled. They definitely gave it everything they had for 40 minutes...just a bit outgunned tonight.

We did battle hard. From the stats, we lost the game from the three point line and on the boards (where Chatt did better both places); we shoot a little better and rebound a few more, and we win. One point game with 90 seconds left. Our senior center needs to score, rebound, and defend a little better; she has more backup and chances for a rest this year and can thus go harder and be more productive when in the game.
