At least that gives us an open week to recover from the Carolina game, and extra time to prepare for the purple people.

The only problem, as I see it, is we have to share facilities with the Panthers one full week longer. That means practicing on the baseball field another week. I hope we got some concession out of this.

Any reason why Furman moved up in the schedule and Ga Southern moved down? I liked playing Ga Southern early. I must say it has worked out for us 3 of the last 4 years. And having Furman toward the end of the schedule was always a good build up.

I've heard talk that the SoCon schedule will be rotating every year so that noone gets a perceived advantage by playing someone at a certain time of the season or back to back with another team(s). Sadly, it hurts tradition a little and with GSU dropping the option it's a little late to help the Terriers. In the past, teams have always faced the Georgia Southern option the week before facing Wofford which I always felt helped them prepare for the Terriers... giving them two weeks to practice facing an option attack.

Apparently many schools got upset at having to play Furman, Georgia Southern, and Wofford in consecutive weeks with the old schedule.

I don't like playing Furman so early in the year, but I hate the idea of finishing the season with Chattanooga and Gardner-Webb. It's very anticlimactic.

I wouldn't mind finishing the season in Chattanooga, but not against Chattanooga.

I hate losing the early date with GSU and the season ending game with Furman as well.

But, I do think that following GSU through the conference schedule was a disadvantage. Particularly since their verion of the option was faster paced and more big play oriented than ours which not only gave opponents an extra week to look at our style of play, but they say the speed of play slow down the second time around making it that much easier.

There is one other advantage to the new schedule. Under the old pattern, each week of the season, as Furman watched their opponents game from the previous week, they were watching Wofford as well. I realize game tapes are readily available for most all games, but I still believe that subliminally the would be an advantage.

I know others have voiced issues with this, particularly Western Carolina fans since Appalachian was seeing their games all through the year due to the same reason.

Another disadvantage we had with the old schedule: Most people actually had a bye week before playing GSU. So, that means they had three weeks to prepare for the option before playing us. I like playing Furman early this year. I was reading their website and saw Gray is slated to be their QB. Anytime I saw him, I was not very impressed, so I especially like our chances against him early. I do, however, wish we were playing GSU early for the same reason, I don't know if they'll be fully adjusted to the offense in the first few games. With the big three all having to adjust to new Qb's for the first time in a while, I think this could be a great season for Wofford (if we stay healthy!).

Anytime we can get an advantage against Furman, I am all for it. The same sentiment re qb changes also applies to us. I hope we can get some consistency at qb ourselves. I really don't see that position which the key to our offense (other than the O-line) as being settled going into next season. Hopefully, it will be by the end of spring; but I wouldn't be surprised to see some early season "shifting on the fly" come September. We simply can't win without a high level of execution out of our qb (who can?). Running only half of our playbook and going the wrong way on snaps is just not going to cut it if we hope to have a chance to play in Chattanooga come Dec.
