We are really really bad at scheduling. We haven't intentionally scheduled a quality OOC opponent (in state or otherwise) in over a decade. Even then, the quality of those teams was not stupendous at the time (coastal carolina and SC State).
Agreed. Wyoming, Gardner Webb & PC don't move the needle for me. I suspect they wouldn't really excite potential recruits either. The GW & PC games check the box for regional, but they have grown stale.
The question is whether this is poor scheduling on our part or whether we are encountering a shrinking number of teams who want to play us and our TO? My guess is it's a combination of the two.
Would like to see us think outside the box more going forward and consider playing teams that will expand our footprint and give us some gravitas if we get the W. For example: one of the Ivy's or service academies, SC State, Richmond, W & M, Coastal, Sam Houston, McNeese,...heck even some of the old SoCon teams that have moved up Appy, Ga So, & Elon....that is, if they ain't too scared
