Bad news about Shawn Graves

Postby walliver on Wed Feb 01, 2006 12:35 pm

WSPA news story this morning:

He's innocent until proven guilty, but the news got my day off to a sickening start.

The WSPA story included video of a few of his long runs from the early 90's.

I didn't think they had even heard of the CSC law in Marion County. Crying shame. But always innocent until proven guilty.

I really hate to see this. While justice needs to be served if he is guilty, I am hoping against hope that there is some sort of mistake or misunderstanding.

My freshman year at Wofford was Graves' senior year and I had a religion class with him. Not that I'm claiming to know they guy or anything, but he was always very personable and friendly to everyone. Totally not the prima donna attitude that you hear associated with some star athletes.

Anyway, I guess we will see all this unfold over the next few months so we'll know soon enough. Best of luck to all parties involved.

In the for-what-it's-worth category, my sources very close to the situation in Marion tell me it doesn't look good at all for #1. I am told it wasn't an innocent or isolated incident. It is big news down there becasue of some racial overtones and looming civil action v. the school district and maybe the police dept (the victim's family has already hired a lawyer from Florence). #1 is still in jail (as of last night) supposedly because of an outstanding warrant in S'burg for child support. This is only what I am told and I cannot vouch for any of this info. It really just sucks. We need to keep him in our prayers and hope justice is served either way.
