Looking at the early rankings I see Richmond just ahead of Wofford. Does anyone have insight on why Russ Huesman went to Richmond from Chattanooga? Is Richmond headed for FBS?

$

He got a big pay raise with the move and Richmond allocates more resources to football.

I also suspect that he may have felt that he had taken Chatty as far as he could.

I remember when we played Richmond in the playoffs at Wofford the talk was that they didn't bid on the site because they couldn't attract many fans. They must have come a long way. Actually, they should. Richmond is a good school in a large market that should support them. I have felt for years that an expanded Southern Conference (that had every school playing football and basketball) should include Richmond and William and Mary. Richmond has seemingly always had a strong basketball program. Maybe they are looking to move up.

Richmond and W&M back in the SoCon would be cool, but not even a lateral move for either of them. The CAA is a better basketball conference and frequently is better in football as well. I would bet the conference payout is bigger in the CAA as well. Plus, since the CAA is oriented as more of a mid-Atlantic and northeastern conference I believe it is more in line with the geography they prefer to recruit. Unless their is a divisional shakeup that changes the landscape of low FBS and FCS then I don't see a move like this making sense for them as much as I'd like to see it happen.

Southern pigskin's preseason All socon teams and POYs http://www.southernpigskin.com/socon/al ... ason-team/

It appears someone has not done their homework. No mention at all of Joe Newman. As newcomer of the year they pick a lineman. But that may be good. Newman can surprise everyone and catch them off guard.

The absence of Datavious is much more ridiculous.

I don't think we've ever had this much preseason hype before.

It makes me feel uneasy.

Preseason rankings always seem to hype up one team that did unexpectedly well the previous postseason. While we expected good postseason results, most others did not so the fact that the Terriers represented themselves very well has turned the attention our way. I doubt our coaches or players give too much thought to this, but it will serve to put a target on us, especially the first week of the season against Furman.

I sense this team has only one thing on their radar screen and that is playing for a Natty. Realistic? I don't know but I like their vision.

does anyone know what kind of training goes on besides conditioning, weights and running, and if any activities such as offensive schemes, defensive schemes are practiced with out coaches involved, etc? Coaches cannot be involved can they?

No coach involvement other than conditioning until august.
But that doesn't prevent players from doing drills etc on their own.

The hype and positive press thrown at Wofford this preseason is earned and deserved. And it doesn't change a thing with how these young men are preparing to attack the season. This group has been through the Fire and back. Seasoned, talented, and extremely hungry to win the SoCon and chase a national title.

Also.........just thinking about how nasty our D Line is going to be. Ooooweeeeeee....teams better buckle their chin straps early......We will have a top 3-4 D Line in the country. Heck, I'd say the same for the Linebackers. Our front 7 is going to be a problem for everyone. I can't wait to see it unfold......

The first 2 games being Conference games set the tone for the season.....and the fact our rivals are up first thrill me.
