A very strong schedule. I really like dropping the DII game for another DI foe. I would expect our strength of schedule to be near the top in the country.

Interesting kicking off the season with a visit from the FUrples.

This Schedule is really good. I think we have a good chance of making the playoffs, but again, we have to show up.

The teams on the schedule are fine, but the order is horrible.
We open with FU -who will be running at brand new scheme we have never seen before and then follow with a decent Mercer team. Worse, our open weekend is week 3. After that we play 8 weeks in a row without a break.

I think we have a shot at being 10-0 going into the game with the Lamecocks. And we have a chance to beat them too because they aren't exactly an elite program....The Citadel did it in 2015. Not to say that we will be 10-0 but we have the talent and ability to do it. And that would bring us a very high playoff seeding...perhaps even #1. 2017 has the potential to be really special, perhaps the best season ever at the school. I think there are three keys to that. If Joe Newman gets plenty of playing time and can show off his speed and explosiveness, we can mix in the pass as a legit part of our offensive arsenal, and the defense can continue to be lights out, we just might win it all. If all that doesn't happen, we will be held back a bit and probably have a 2017 very much like 2016, which is very good but a bit less than we want.

But just concerning the schedule...why are we playing SoCon games, and FU in particular, so early in the season? I don't like that. I's rather play all of our non-conference games then have our conference schedule, with Furman at the end.

I don't like the two SOCON games right out of the shoot either and the early bye week. Although, it worked well for El Cid this year. Hopefully, we can be 2-0 in the conference going into the bye week.

I like the games, but not the order. A later bye week and starting in a situation where Furman's new staff has all summer to focus on us rather than a week in mid-season hurts. They will be sky high for that game so we better be ready to go from the coin flip. Mercer in Macon isn't a favorable early game either, but they'll be breaking in a new QB so maybe catching them early helps.

I assume the G-W and PC games are both the front ends of home and home series. If so, that bodes well for avoiding a D-II next year as well. Honestly, seeing how we don't want to travel significant distances for OOC games, I would be fine establishing permanent rotations with at least one of G-W and PC (preferably PC, based on history). Having a OOC rivalry game would be an asset to our scheduling.

But, in the end, we have to play the games so winning matters more than the order we play them in. Personally, I think the success of next season will come down to how the offense develops (next man up at FB vs. the Newman and Morgan show) and how the defense adapts to a new DC (probably less of a question mark than the offense, even without a named DC).

The two early conference games give us a chance to see where we are and then work on what we need to during the off week and the games with GW and PC. Then we will have a six straight conference game stretch to show what we learned. If we can win those first two games in some very hot (presumably) conditions it should get us in good shape for the conference season. The strong teams in the conference other than Wofford should be The Citadel and probably Chatty, with question marks on most of the others. Mercer and WCU could be good, and Samford has that QB back and could be VERY good. Who knows what Furman will be, and VMI and ETSU will be question marks. All in all a pretty good schedule. GW lost their star in a transfer; new coaches at Chatty and Furman; ETSU in new stadium. Lots of intrigue.

As we all know, no matter how the schedule shakes out, we have to line up and play whoever is in front of us. I believe this is a great opportunity and challenge to continue to build off this past season. The key will be to remain healthy and get in some great offseason work and some more experience throughout the spring for some of those younger guys. Depth will be huge moving forward as we will need to be able to roll in different guys throughout the season like we did this past year. Hopefully, not so much at QB.

I think the key to next season is team chemistry. This past season we obviously had it. Prior three seasons, not so much. It was apparent in the player interviews that they were a very tight group, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. That intangible is overlooked too often IMO. Terrier19 preached it to us all season. Since we have many defensive starters returning, hopefully that chemistry will remain intact. If so, and we get some creativity back on offense with a passing game we could have a special season

Another early 2017 ranking, FWIW. We appear to be getting some respect, but as we know, it will take a lot of work. http://www.southernpigskin.com/socon/wa ... cs-top-25/

I really like how the schedule shakes out IMO.......having 2 dangerous teams early on, allows a golden opportunity to come out and take early control of the SoCon. Not unlike El Cid last season. I do not fear anything with this group.....This will be the best team in recent memory for Wofford......No shortage of talent, leadership, across the board. Line em up in whatever order you want em.....My Short Haired Dogs are up for the challenge and are playing to make a run at the National Title.......All the seasons of struggle, the years of disappointment, mixed with last years run, culminate in this season. I am looking for nothing short of a SoCon crown, and a deep run in the playoffs that hopefully land us with a shot at the Crown.

I know it is a "Way too Early" Top 25...but The SOCON has 6 teams in the top 25.

Gonna be a tough league again. The "SC" bracket could be just as tough as it was last year...Wofford...Furman...Citadel...Charleston Southern...SC State.

Palmetto FCS Football is tough.
