Sorry to see the Patterson injury. Hate to see these kids get hurt. Hope he gets back to 100% ASAP.
Ditto!
Coincidentally, Mercer also lost an outstanding Linebacker from Parkview HS (also Patterson's Alma Mater) in the Atlanta area with a similar season/possibly-career-ending injury the week prior. Kyle Williams (#51) has been an outstanding Player for Mercer. He was 'listed' as a 2nd Team OLB, but I think he played as much as the Starters. I believe Williams was a year ahead of Patterson, so I'm sure they were Teammates for the Panthers. Kyle has not had surgery to repair his cervical fracture(s) yet. My understanding is that if he has the surgery, it is a certainty that he will never be able to play again, but if it heals on its own, he may be able to fully recover and play next season. So, he is waiting to see if the fracture(s) will begin to knit on their own before having surgery. I'm not sure that is accurate, but that is what I have been told.
Prayers and wishes for rapid & complete recoveries for both of these young warriors!
BTW - As Parkview's primary color is orange (their stadium is known as The Big Orange Jungle), perhaps EVERYONE should wear orange on Saturday as a show of the solidarity of our support for these young men. Just a thought...
