Don't see any way he can hang on the way they're playing today. After Michigan State, I figured FU
would be a tough out.

It seems to be going downhill as the season progresses. Hard to figure.

From the comments on uffp.com, Coach Fowler and his staff will need an escort from the stadium after the game.

Furples 0-5 to start the year for the first time since 1979. Ouch!

They are the best 0-5 team in the country.

Fowler has lost that team it seems. Tough job keeping heads in after 0-4 start. Credit them for storming back and not giving up.
I am hearing whispers of serious infighting on staff and among players, and between staff and players.
But don't you worry: they will have cured all the ills and be ready for us come November, I assure you.

Wasn't that phrase trademarked 10 years ago by the Citadel?

Unfortunately, we rarely play well against them in Traveller's Rest.

If Furman, or any other team on our schedule, is 28-32 passing against us, we will very likely lose.

I was the one who said we were the best 0-4 team. Played Michigan state strong. Down 21-13 in fourth Q. Lost at citadel 19-14. Held them to 190 yards rushing. Second Lowest rushing total in three years counting FSU and USC and playoff teams like coastal. We Lost to Chatt (who killed Samford ) 21-14. We WERE good. And losing

Yesterday the wheels came off. I said I feared what an 0-4 start can do to an otherwise decent team ... And it may have happened Hard to keep your head up when - despite two FBS schools plus top ten Citadel and Chatt - you are 0-4. I feared this. Now we may have a decent team that gets beat on. But no excuse. If Fowler had done better the prior two years he wouldn't be on hot seat this yr w brutal schedule.

We were down 49-14 and came back to 42-52. But still. WTF. Give up 49 in a half to a team in second year ???????? Kennesaw State. They played ETSU even. No excuse. Even missing starting three LBs - which sucks v option - we should still win.

Not spreading rumors. But yeah. Fowler may be gone. What do I know. Still. The home team has won the last 8 in Woff v Furman. [-o<

Good luck an no injuries to you all until we meet

I saw the 28-32 passing stat. I think you all have a strong team. A Good team. But man. 28-32. That's video game stuff

Question? Was that due to soft 7 yard cushions by DBs or what??? If that's what it was We have done that at FU. Err

It was a combination of things. Samford does the dink and dunk, but to be honest, most of their dink and dunk wasn't the most effective, but when it was it was. We couldn't get pressure when we needed it (I think in the first half they brought a tight end to protect and in the second half they utilized our aggressive rush against us with HB screens).

We didn't play totally awful on defense though, Samford just did what they needed to do. They couldn't run the ball on us, and it wasn't like last year when they could and they were just running up and down the field on us either (last year they had over 150 yards rushing on top of godly passing numbers).

They're an air raid offense, and they like to run the ball for at least 100 yards a game, but if they can't, they'll be just fine. It's an offense tailor made for a lot of points, but if you can get a lot of pressure on the QB you'll get them off the field by ruining their rhythm. I think Samford saw that we had a strong pass rush and that they had done terrible at protecting for the first couple weeks and adjusted accordingly (people who watched the game film and know better about this stuff could probably speak more to this than me). When they established a rhythm passing the ball, they switched it up and were successful.

Western Carolina is probably the closest team resembling their offense (perhaps VMI as well, but VMI doesn't have the athletes that Samford does in my opinion), but I think they like to run it more.

Put it simply, I'm a little concerned about our pass defense, but this week we'll see if we should be. Every other team in the conference, whether it be Furman, Mercer, Citadel, etc is going to try to establish the run instead of throwing it all over the yard, and if we can stop that reasonably (I think we can) we'll still have a good defensive performance.

But I could be wrong. The one thing that's frustrating about this team is that we're only consistent in our inconsistency for the past 3 years or so. I wouldn't be surprised if us or Samford competed for a playoff spot alongside Citadel and Chatt. If we don't commit penalties if we don't turn it over on downs, if we score 3 more points the conversation on this board is so much different than it is right now. IF IF IF. No excuses, we lost the game, but the reality is that conference play is going to be tough and contested. As I said last week when we were talking about Furman, it doesn't really matter how close you play if you don't win. That's the problem both Furman and Wofford have had for the last 3 years or so.

Right now, if you're Wofford, you have more to be optimistic about because you have a better record, probably have better confidence, and have something to "look forward to" by virtue of the win loss column being favorable to the playoffs. Does that mean we'll make the playoffs or that we'll beat a team like Furman (who has been a thorn in our side on years they shouldn't have)? No it doesn't.

I thought we would learn a lot about the team this week, and we did. I thought if beat Samford and Western you could safely say that Wofford football is "back" but we've already dropped one of those. If we beat Western, it looks good, and I would still say we have a good chance of making the playoffs, but we would probably have to beat the citadel in about 3 weeks.

Furman has the benefit of having played the toughest of their schedule this year and definitely not making the playoffs in terms of evaluating their football team. We don't have that yet, and we don't have the assurance of looking like a playoff team either. We probably won't have either for a while

No doubt you all should be way more confident than us! I will always be as objective as I can. We are freakin 0/5. And 1-10 in last 11 games. We looked so good early in the year but couldn't quite win. Now I fear that will snowball. The ol' "oh no, here it comes again" that creeps into players minds if on a losing streak and you get a bad bounce or three
