Ole Miss - Sept. 10

Postby CarolinaDog on Fri Sep 02, 2016 8:28 am

Jumping ahead to the money game.

From a source on Hugh's staff, I was told the team carved out an extra week over the summer to prepare and install for our option attack. Film of last nights game has been broken down and in the system for review. They are extremely concerned about the quick turnaround after the Labor Day showdown in Orlando.

No question the Rebs will score points. If we can play our game and control the clock we might be able to manage a competitive contest early. Will be interested to see how they fare against the Seminoles Monday night.

Can imagine they are concerned with the scenario of us having 10 days and them only 5 to prepare. It is a real opportunity for our guys to get ready to make a statement.

Not sure we would fare well v the Rebs regardless of the scenario. But this gives yet another opportunity to get better and prepare for the conference. Praying for no injuries.
Any word on injuries from last night and of course Roach?

Any word on Colvin, he seemed dinged up a bit.

Ole Miss Up Tempo will be an issue to deal with. And it is forecasted to be really hot as well I believe. Just want to compete and come out of the game healthy.

Healthy is the key word this early in the season.

I've had enough of seasons with multiple serious injuries, thanks.

I agree with the sentiments about health and avoiding injuries. We won a game we had to have Thursday. Now we play a game set up to pay bills and toughen us up for the SoCon and I think we just want to go to Oxford and come out of there with NO INJURIES that would hurt our chances to win in conference play. If so, we had a successful day no matter the score. I don't think anyone realistically expects us to win. Though it would be awesome if we did...

Rest assured, on top of all that has been said, Ole Miss is now aware of the fact that Mississippi State lost to South Alabama as a 28 point favorite today. Granted, South Alabama is a FBS program in the Sun Belt and we are a FCS opponent from the SoCon, but it is an example of what can happen if you look past an opponent and the chips fall the right way. They will have a short turnaround, but I don't think there is much of an element of surprise here for the Rebels coaches. Their players may be a different story, though.

This team has a will to win--Ole Miss will be a tough row to hoe--But we will have accomplished something if we can pull it off--We have some players that don't know we are not supposed to beat those guys--

"Eyes" - Great point and I agree that we will be highly visible after the "upset weekend." As a graduate alum of South Alabama I am very proud of what Joey Jones and staff have done with the program. He made history today. No reason why the shorthaired dogs can't have their day in the sun as well.

Should be able to get a really good look at Ole Miss. tonight against FSU. The Seminoles are the real deal (ranked #4), and are a powerhouse with their defensive front four. The coaching staff will be able to see any weak spots (if any) in Ole Miss. First, I pray for no injuries, and I hope every kid in a Wofford uniform gets a couple of snaps in this big (money) game.

As I said to my son, the difference by position is marginal (mostly size and speed that got those players recruited more heavily) and while collectively it adds up, Wofford football IQ is just as good (and actual IQ is likely better across the board). So, while they would likely beat us 9 of 10 times, our boys have the ability to make this that one time out of ten - if they play their collective a$$es off and executive consistently.

I'm guessing all of these comments were made before watching Ole Miss dismantle Fla. St. The Rebs have an incredibly fast and athletic team. Their D is ridiculous and their O is high octane, too. I do not have high expectations for us in this matchup.

This Ole Miss game is pretty much just like last year's Clemson game. We are mostly likely going to just simply be outclassed...nothing against out guys, we're just playing one of the top five college football teams in the nation. Let's just home that we come out of this game healthy, unlike last year at Clemson. The score is secondary to that.
