Word from TS is that Will Gay's knee is fully rehabbed and he is feeling like his "nineteen-year-old self".

Here are my 2nd scrimmage impressions.

Good
5. OL has cleaned up a lot of the missed assignments and offside penalties.
4. There were quick whistles and a conscience effort to limit hits on QB'S and Upperclassmen players.
3. The passing game showed improvement. Butler look to be the better passer of the group today. Higher risk player who made some of the more difficult throws. Goodson looked the part of game manager and more cerebral approach to offense. Didn't force passes or pitches but tucked the ball and got what he could. Newman looked like you would expect a Freshman to look. If not for the Jacks injury a redshirt would have been an option
2. Play calling included some new formations with incorporation of passes that did not include play action. Don't know if that was TTU preperation and if it is we my need to look at putting them in our playbook.
1. Players seem fresh and there is an excitement amongst the players. I'm sure the younger staff and Coach Ayers letting the players play loose is beneficial. Also Ostin Mcpherson and Datavious Wilson still are standing out and it will be hard to keep them off the field

Bad
5. Defense gave up too many big yardage plays. Granted most were on Freshman but they will be depended on to add depth. Personally from the outside looking in Redshirts were handed out today.
4. There were more injuries than anticipated from last scrimmage and practices. Mcafee, RJ Taylor, Helligar, Ward, and Mangum were some of the notables. Looks like they will be available vs TTU.
3. Kicking game looks to be in need of work. Missing way too many FG'S and a few muffled put returns.
2.Leadership. It is hard to identify that Alpha dog. Evan was that guy they rallied around on Offense but none have stepped up to that role.On Defense Vaughn and Stewart look to play the roles but aren't taking the ownership.
1. No fan appreciation or "meet the players day". Also the final scrimmage being held on a weekday.

Got to watch most of Wed. scrimmage. Not much to be impressed about. The offense didn't have that "we're getting back at the football gods" for taking our guy (EJ), especially early on. The DL and LB's had a field day on the RB's. Lots of really bad pass attempts, and bad option pitches. Only six more practices after today, and the team looks like a break might be a good thing. OK, I'm on the positive wagon starting right now!!!

Bear in mind that the starting OL didn't take a lot of reps Wednesday.
