• 2016 marks the first season for head coach Marcus Satterfield in his first head coaching
post. Most recently the offensive coordinator at Temple, and helping lead the Owls to a
Top 25 spot and a bowl berth, Satterfield is no stranger to the Ohio Valley Conference,
as he was on the UT Martin coaching staff from 2006-08.

• The Golden Eagles’ November 5 to face the University of Tennessee marks the fourth
Southeastern Conference opponent Tech has faced in the last 10 years. The Golden
Eagles have also played at Auburn, Georgia and Arkansas in recent seasons. It is the
first time Tech will have played the Knoxville school in football since 1951 -- 65 years ago.
Satterfield was previously a graduate assistant for Phil Fulmer at Tennessee.

• Tech utilized four quarterbacks last season, but junior Brock McCoin will return to the wide
receiver spot this season. McCoin rushed for 271 yards and caught 61 passes for 747 yards
and four touchdowns a year ago. The Golden Eagles currently have four quarterbacks
on the 2016 roster, including Marshall and James Madison transfer Michael Birdsong.

• Of its top 10 tacklers last season on defense, the Golden Eagles only return three, led by
Maleek Hall (64 tackles), Tim Collins (38) and Kevin Robinson-White (35). Hall, however,
led Tech in pass break-ups with 17.

• On the roster entering July, the Golden Eagles had Football Bowl Subdivision transfers
from Appalachian State (William Bronson), Louisville (Dontez Byrd), Temple (Eriq Fadahunsi
and Alex Carling), Marshall (Michael Birdsong) and Virginia Tech (Jerome Wright).

First and Foremost we have to start with the Coaching Change. New Coach comes in from Temple.

As offensive coordinator at Temple University, Marcus Satterfield played a large role during the past three years in turning around a struggling program, helping lift the Owls to a conference divisional championship, 10-win season, first Top 25 ranking in 36 years, and bowl appearance.

Now Satterfield, 39, is increasing his wingspan. Stepping away from his post with the Owls, Satterfield was named on January 4, 2016 as head coach of the Tennessee Tech University Golden Eagles.

I know you should hope (and maybe, pray) that you don't have OVC Officials working the game as Mercer did for their trip to homeCOOKEinVILLE last Fall. Multiple obvious pass interference went uncalled along with several late/cheap shots by the Golden Eagle DB's. I don't think I'm one to usually cry too much about officiating (after games - I'm awful during), but this one stuck with me. This was some kind of special night, honoring Watson Brown or some Championship Team or something and the calls not made were game-changing plays. They just did not seem to 'want' TTU to lose that night. With the new HC's Home debut, they may be in the same frame of mind. BEWARE! You guys played them last year, so no need to run down their losses and returning players - other than to say, they lost 3 very good players, but they do have a lot of good athletes and brought in some transfers that MAY make an impact. And, I would be very surprised if they aren't better Coached than last year.

Also - Tailgating was good. We posted up on a patch of grass near the band they had playing on the home side and it was not too terribly a long walk to the Basketball Arena where the only available bathrooms were located. Fans were very nice and fun to chat with. Also - Nashville hotel prices are ridiculous - stay in Cookeville - it's actually a pretty cool College Town.

BTW - Here's a pic of one of those uncalled PI's...in the endzone...(the picture was narrowed to fit the frame, I guess. The ball is just out of the frame on the right)
What do you think?

Looks like good clean defense       dont worry, no problem with us having this situation..............unless you can "Interfere" on a FB dive...........I kid I kid. Im sure Tech will be fired up and the OVC refs will be in the building, but they will not be able to suit them up on the D Line and / or be able to stop the option.

This is the opposite of Big South referees who see pass interference on almost every incomplete pass attempted by a Big South team.

If the refs "miss" a pass interference call on their D that wouldn't be sooo bad as it at least would indicate we were throwing the ball!!!!!! I really hope the coaches will utilize the talent they have at receiver position this year.

Hard to argue with complaints about that pic of the TTU guy reaching around the Mercer receiver. Probably some OOC slant and also some disrespect of Mercer since they are an new program. Wofford gets the same type stuff although I think its more geared against our general lack of passing. I guess the OOC refs are so used to seeing us run that when we pass they can't believe it and forget the rules.

Somewhere I have a picture saved of a Ohio DB absolutely mauling Andy Strickland. As I remember it was a hand on the facemask and another on the back of the helmet as he was dragging Andy down from the side with the ball right there so no way they could say it was uncatchable. The OVC must be the training ground for MAC refs, but I digress.

This is a challenging and important game. If we can win it, we have a great chance of being no worse than 2-1 going into our conference schedule.

We looked pretty good in last year's game; Butler played well. Need to come out strong.

TTU obviously hasn't gotten the memo on Jacks yet. Or this is another fine work of investigative journalism.
