2016 season

Postby woffordgrad94 on Thu Feb 18, 2016 3:14 am

The preseason SoCon pitcher of the year Matt Milburn will get the start for the Diamond Terriers in the opener against Kentucky Friday at King Field. We enter 2016 with the highest expectations for the baseball team in quite a while. Here's hoping we can have a nice encore to last year's historic season!

Beat Kentucky 5-4...Nice start to the season. Stony Brook tomorrow at 2PM at King Field as an appetizer before the big Furman basketball game in the BenJo.

Big win for us against preseason top 25 program from SEC.
We have Stoneybrook today.
As we all know, pitching depth is a huge issue in these weekend series/back to backs.
Don't know if anyone paid attention to this but our coaches took the entire baseball team to Italy for 12 days as their Interim class. Players paid their own way ($3200 a player) which was assisted with camp jobs etc. Coach I gave up 10 practices to do it and says it was worth every minute missed. Class was open to all students but only 2 or 3 were not Bball players. Fantastic trip which will repeat every 4 years so everyone gets to go at least once during their career. Incoming frosh next year have already chosen their trip: Spain/Portugal in 2020.
Game changer in terms of campus experience for Bball players who play more games and miss more time on campus than any other team (especially considering the fall season). Should help in recruiting.
I know for me personally as former Bball player not being able to travel or take an interim trip is one of the few things about my Wofford experience that I wish I could have changed.
I like where our program is right now. We doing things a little differently and the kids are responding. The worm has officially turned. May be a very special season.

I can see how the chance to take a trip abroad ould help in recruiting. It is a great opportuntity and also very fun, educational and fascinating. Kudos to all involved in making it happen. The missed practice time is well worth the enrichment of the players' lives.

Terriers edged the Stony Brook Seawolves 9-8. After trailing for most of the day, Wofford took the lead in a big six run bottom of the seventh that included a huge three run homer by Brett Hash followed by some excellent run manufacturing. Then they hung on for their second victory. Geroge Mason tomorrow at 1 at King Field.

Completed a perfect 3-0 opening weekend with an 11-6 win over George Mason. We carried an 11-1 lead to the 8th inning but then multiple pitchers had a few issues. I'm not sure if that's a cause for concern this early in the season quite yet, but it is worth mentioning that a couple of these guys were seeing their first college baseball action ever...the butterflies had to be flying. Jacob Comtra-Bogan's first start was an excellent one. We capitalized on some GMU mistakes to take a big lead early in this one and it was really never in doubt. Next up is a midweek game Wednesday at 5 against USC Upstate at King Field, weather permitting (the forecast isn't good right now).

Have we ever had a SC #1 play before in any sport?
Love the way this team competes. Confident and loose.
Don't want to early call yet it but it is entirely possible that baseball is the most competitive successful program on campus right now/this year. Just sayin'.........

CoC cut FlaSt today 2-1 BTW.
