Houston takes JMU job

Postby Ruckus on Mon Jan 18, 2016 1:16 pm

Cid now looking for new HC. Not sure what staff is going. Word is DC Maurice Drayton's job if he wants it.
He was doing a fantastic job down there. Their loss is our gain. Has to be good for us.
Have also heard the recent blow up about the knobs singing in white sheets have been hurting them in recruiting. Know one decommitted who cited it as reason.

Houston is a rising star. JMU is not his last stop.

Interesting how he was tweeting out on the recruiting trail all weekend (knowing he had an interview today).

JMU doesn't seem like much of an upward move, but recruiting may be easier. Apparently the white sheet deal is bigger than I thought.

The move is not yet a done deal, however.

As far as hurting Citadel's recruiting, could his timing have been worse?

JMU is a step up, but I agree that it is unlikely to be Houston's last stop. He did a good job in Charleston and will probably do well fort he Dukes as well with more money, more resources and a more prominent FCS program in what is probably considered a higher profile conference. It will be interesting to see what The Citadel does. I think they should bring back Ellis Johnson; I liked what he was doing with their program.

The Citadel will most likely need to promote the OC or DC. There are not a lot of available up-and-coming coaches this late in the season. Their best bet is to promote from within, and hope the new coach puts down roots.

Agreed.
I am hearing OC Thompson, DC Drayton, or former standout and coach Everett Sands who is now at NCSU.
With their recent publicity (and long history quite frankly), an African American candidate may be advantageous.

OC Brent Thompson to be named HC tomorrow per Post and Courier.
They wasted no time. He is the architect of their offensive success but HC is a new frontier.

Can't wait to welcome him and their team back to Sparta with a good old fashioned tail kicking. We owe them one
