2015-16 Season

Postby lawdog on Sun Nov 22, 2015 12:26 pm

At Columbia Tuesday will be a challenge. They are coming off close losses to K-State and Northwestern. They have size and experience.

And it appears that those two games with K-state and NW are on espn3. I am not planning to watch both games all the way through but just enough to get an idea of their team

Have a good buddy going to the pregame event and then to the game. Wish I could be there.

Lawdog we want you to whoop it up for us. I was surprised at the number of Wofford folks at UNC, and am guessing there may be some at the game in NYC.

Just a note; there are two conference games slated for broadcast on RSN Fox Sports Southeast: at Mercer on Jan. 16, at UNCG on Feb. 15.
There are only five games in package, but seems like it's been a while since the SoCon has had a true TV deal. - http://www.soconsports.com/ViewArticle. ... GI.twitter

I hope our guys learned from tonight's game. They were down by nearly 20 and made a furious comeback using new combinations and sets that seemed to work. Fletcher is the best catch and shoot three point shooter we have seen. We still need to learn to get the ball inside to trigger the offense. Brooks gave us some good minutes and made a difference. In the second half our guys played much better defense. Maybe we made a little progress.

I didn't watch it but saw that Brooks was in line up coming out of half time. His minutes have picked up in last few games. We desperately need his athleticism and explosiveness. He just looks so tentative and unsure at times. His ball handling has been suspect as well.
This teams needs something to break/give. No identity or flow offensively. Defense is down right awful. Saw where they shot 70% from the floor in first half. That is more a reflection on us rather than them. This team doesn't play like the Wofford teams of old until they get too far down.
It's time for Collins to step up as senior leader and the young talented guns like Brooks, Magee, and Jackson to make their marks on the program.

They shot 60% for the game, including 57 % from three-point. You don't beat ANYONE allowing that. Plus they shot 37 FT's, we 16 (outscored there 27-11) ... lost it right there.

There was good commentary by the radio guys, saying that the coaches really laid into them about energy and identity. Cam Jackson needs to get fierce, and they evidently see Brooks as the one who can light the fire. Brooks and Garcia were on the floor at the same time much of the game. They know that Magee can shoot the ball, and need to work hard to set screens for him. We still need to get the ball inside with the threat to score in order to open the outside. Once again, in looking back to last year we forget the defensive ability of the guys we lost. Somehow the coaches need to light the fire, and then some players need to take it to the court.

The combination of poor shooting and poor defense is usually not a good recipe for anything but L's. Hopefully the former players now on our staff will remind these guys of what it takes to win championships. All out effort on D, patience for the high percentage shots on O and knocking down FT's... that will get er done!
