At Columbia

Postby boulder3m on Tue Nov 24, 2015 10:55 am

Columbia was getting a lot of respect from the announcers on the Northwestern/UNC game last night. They lost to NW in OT by 3, but evidently have a very veteran team. Evidently they go about 8-9 deep and are balanced. Their gym looks a lot like the BenJo. Regardless, it is a great experience for our guys to play in NYC against an Ivy League team. It will be on ESPN3 at 7.

Talking to the coaches, this will be a great early test for our boys. Columbia is a very experienced team with a lot of Jr's and Sr's in the starting five and bench players. It will be interesting to see how we match up with them. They play the Princeton offense and is very hard to guard with all of the picks and back cuts.
I expect us to get after them and come away with a close victory.

Samford gave us trouble when they were running it.
Defense defense defense is the key tonight.

I could sync with TuneIn. Anyone have a suggestion how I can sync our radio with the TV?

Saw some of the b'cast; 70-59 L; seemed like a tale of 2 halves. We were hot at the outset; but, could not stop their runs. Cola hit some key shots. We were in foul trouble early.
Lawdog, what are your thoughts?

I thought we were out of sync and that our energy lagged in the second half. Also we were only 5-11 at the FT line, and this killed some momentum. They hit 13 fts ... may have cost us the game. That said, Columbia is talented and well coached, and was playing at home. They shot 63 percent in the second half. We had a small but energetic following. Hobo, I think I spoke with your friend at the pregame.

Saw the ESPN3 broadcast off and on. Gordon was a beast in the first half. Looked like they started doubling him some in the second half and he did a pretty good job finding open guys. I think he is going to cause some issues in SoCon play. Looked like we may have gotten gased again down the stretch again. We can't seem to stop people from getting in the lane on the defensive side. I still feel really good about this team and think we have played very quality opponents to prepare us for conference play. My only real grip is free throws. Not sure what is going on there.

Very nice, LD. I knew he was going. Glad to hear it!

25 points in the first half, 46 in the second. Getting better but still a lot of work to do.

This was a very good game for our coaches to use to teach. Columbia had us well scouted, and decided to defend the outside. When Gordon got into foul trouble that really played into their game plan. When Cam gets back we need to begin scoring in the paint and take the pressure off the perimeter. Columbia is going to be the Ivy League champions. We have got some really tough games coming up after these next two.

I agree Boulder. But it looked to me like we lost our rhythm when we started going inside. We couldn't quite execute that since their bigs were pretty good, and we passed up some mid range jumper opportunities. Collins, Garcia, McGee, Pegram, and others can shoot it.

The gym at Columbia looked a lot like the BenJo from the TV broadcast.

Since we left town, Columbia has lost its last two, by one point each, including Longwood last night at home.
