Learn from it, fix it and let's move to the next game:Western Carolina

WCU scored 21 unanswered to squeak past Mercer, via their second string QB. Pretty good team, but highly beatable.

Simple question for the game against Western: How does Wofford react? If they react like they did after getting thumped by Furman last year, then they can win. If they turn in another performance like this week, then they can not. Either way, Wofford has to enter the game with a true game plan and then execute it. I'm much less worried in the players ability to execute than I am the coaches ability to formulate.

Eyes, you will be sorely disappointed. We do what we do. No more, no less. If we don't/can't execute, there is no rabbit to be pulled from the hat or magic potion to concocted that will cure our ills. If anything, you will see the playbook contract and simplify, not expand.
It's football: the team that blocks tackles and executes the best wins. Much of the success that comes from that though starts with intensity, focus and desire I.e. Playing harder than your opponent.
On a more positive note, we will for the first time in 2 weeks play a team that did not have two weeks to prep for us.

Looks like Jo Jo Tillery will get the nod this weekend. Hopefully we get Colvin back on offense.

Certainly hope we start with a bang against Catty. Seems we play better as front runners. But if we get into a futile situation (like last Saturday), please, please do SOMETHING different coaches. Just sayin'............!

I agree that execution is key, but mental preparation is also key. I know you can't get a team totally focused and fully motivated every week. Coaches have to reserve that for special situations/matchups. Maybe our coaches didn't do enough last week and maybe the team just wasn't feeling it. Maybe because of the streak they thought they were unbeatable. Who knows and at this point it doesn't really matter. My point is that last year our guys answered the bell after getting crushed by Furman in a game they very well could have written off. If they respond the same way this time, then we have a very good chance against Western Carolina. But, if they can't shake last week's negative result, then it could be another long Saturday afternoon.

I have no doubt that everybody wants to win, but at some point, egos have to be set aside if personal preferences aren't getting it done. It seems that some of our coaching decisions are being steadfastly hung on to when on the field results dictate a change is in order. If we get beat because we don't have enough talent or because the talent we do have is not able to play then that is one thing, but losing because somebody refuses to change in light of an adequate data sample indicating that something is not working is totally different. I'm not prepared to call for anyone to be fired, but I do think that part of being a professional is admitting something doesn't work and trying something new in hopes of a better result.

This game last season was a bitter pill to swallow. We outplayed them most of the first half and then the fumble at the goal line, the phantom pass interference, the Goal line stand for 4 plays. Then the subsequent fumble leading to the safety. SMH> I want this game.

We have won 9 of the last 10 against them, and all 8 ever played at Gibbs. We have some injuries, but will start a very strong group. More than anything, we need to play hard and focused, and not lose momentum early. I have a feeling we will play well.
