Jeremiah Tate Passes Away

Postby Terrier13 on Mon Jun 22, 2015 12:28 pm

It's with a heavy heart that I post this. Jeremiah passed away this morning while serving as a camp counselor this summer. Full details in the link http://athletics.wofford.edu/news/2015/6/22/MBB_0622150137.aspx. Prayers for his family, friends and the team as a whole as they deal with this tragedy.

Still at a loss for words about this tragedy. Absolutely heartbreaking that his life was cut so short. Sending prayers to his family, friends, the team, and the entire Wofford community as they mourn-- Rest in peace, Jeremiah. Never forgotten

We know that young males in particular go through a stage where they may try some things without thinking it through. Coaches routinely emphasize and warn about this. Deepest condolences to the family and friends of this outstanding young man. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/l ... 40430.html

Condolences from your former conference foes.

This always stings. We had a incoming freshman pitcher die in a car wreck on his way to Statesboro for baseball team meetings.

Terrible.

Jeremiah Tate represented everything that we hope Wofford Athletics and the College stands for. He was involved in Wofford in every way. Accidents that kill young people are devastating to everyone concerned. We can only pray for his family and close friends and help them in whatever way we can. The blow to Wofford is shared by Camp Thunderbird and his home town. He touched so many lives in such a positive way.

This is awful news. Thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends. Yet another sad reminder that nobody is guaranteed tomorrow. It always sucks when someone this young passes.

I hesitate to post this under the timing and circumstances but I have seen some speculation on social about whether JT jumped off the bridge or was pushed. The assumption is because he couldn't swim he must have been pushed.
Conspiracy theories on social media so close to the death seem distasteful to me. I just hope the Tate family gets the peace of truth they deserve in their time of loss.

This is an absolute tragedy no matter what. I really don't even know what to say. What a tremendous loss for JT's family and friends, those at the Camp, the Wofford community and the world at large. I wish I had something more profound to say about this, but I really am at a loss for words.

Wow... That makes this all even more depressing. Events like these will be felt at Wofford for years to come.

There had been a student death at Wofford three years before I arrived as a freshman and it was still something that affected the campus community. As we all well know, once you attend Wofford, you become a part of it as much as it becomes a part of you. I can only imagine what the mood on campus is right now, even without most of the students there.

According to this, Jeremiah could not swim but the other counselor did not know it. There once was a requirement at some schools that every freshman had to know or learn how to swim; maybe we need to do that. No excuse, in this day and time. http://www.wyff4.com/news/wofford-baske ... r/33710280
