Shot clock reduced to 30- does this hurt us?

Postby woffordgrad94 on Tue May 19, 2015 9:40 pm

It seems like this could favor teams that like to run. We won't be able to hold the ball and slow down the game quite as long. On the other hand, great defense could force more shot clock violations and other turnovers for us since opponents would have less time to solve a tough defense. So the change could work both ways- beneficial and detrimental.

I see this as more negative than positive. Coach Young said himself in an interview last season that he'd like to see it go back to 45 seconds. This is a nod to the run and shoot teams as well as an attempt to create more highlights and fan interest. It's just too bad that they are hurting fundamental basketball by making the change. Wofford will adjust and be OK, but this makes it that much tougher. Fortunately, we've been getting more athletic which will help.

Yes this will hurt us with our offensive style, but it will help us on the defensive side. It also means the other team has five less seconds to score on us. WIth our defensive style, we can make other teams struggle to score on us. I am looking forward to this change for college basketball. We will adjust to this, but it will take a while. Looking forward to seeing how we adjust to this .

I agree bk57; I think it will help more than harm.

Yes, nowadays the governing body of a sport/association like NCAA is mainly focused on how to change aspects of the game to make it more fan-friendly, exciting, or what have you. And that's pretty much justified by the revenue these organizations receive either directly or indirectly from the fans. Making gradual changes over a longer period of time usually works OK, but there will ultimately be underlying reservations about the change (any change). Teams will have to learn to adjust, and some good points have been brought up here. It's just another hurdle to jump over for the Terriers, but I trust that MY and his staff will make sure their style is adjusted accordingly (sooner the better...may become a big part of practice).
