2015-2016 Season

Postby T-Dog 4 on Sun Mar 22, 2015 2:14 pm

While we are all disappointed that we did not take out Arkansas, I tend to agree with the glass half full perspective Shanessy paints. If we are able to hang onto MY, there is no reason we cannot return to the Dance again next year. It will be a different dynamic without this year's seniors, but we are still very talented and deep, plus it sounds like we get bigger across the board... and maybe even pick up some swagger from McKnight.

Really looking forward to us taking that next step as a program. Conquer & Prevail!

I think Wofford will likely be pretty darn good. A guy like Karl Cochran won't be easily replaced. You almost can't even think of it that way. It'll be a total team effort to make up for what he did for the team. But I do expect for Spencer Collins to have a big year If he can become a little more consistent with his outside shot, he should have a chance to be one of the very top players in the conference, I would think. Jaylen Allen is a little streaky, but he's got a scorer's mentality and will likely improve. CJ Neumann, Cam Jackson, Justin Gordon -- that should be the core of a strong frontcourt. I'm interested the big freshman from Wando and the transfer.

What's the word on Larry McKnight? Other than what was in the linked article, has anyone got insights?

And this kid here -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Wi5GP6R9AU -- I know it's a highlight tape, and against high school competition, but he looks like a guy who can shoot and take the ball strong to the basket. Possible major contributor as a freshman?

Pegram, the recruit from Wando is a big kid at 6'10" 250lbs ! He played for former Terrier player, David Eaton, at Wando and his stats were solid, but not great. I read the attached article on him that says his offensive stats could have been more impressive, but he drew a lot of double-teams and so, like any good Terrier, he tried to focus more on defense, passing, rebounding and the intangibles, rather than his own scoring. I don't remember us having that kind of size in a while, so am excited to see what he can bring to the table.

I think I remember hearing/reading somewhere that his junior year Pegram averaged a double-double but I could be wrong about that

I'm excited about Matt Pegram....and sounds like Mike Young is.

I'm surprised he wasn't recruited by some bigger schools. Perhaps he could have been had he not signed with Wofford in the early recruiting period.

Let's hope Pegram has good footwork to go with that height. Attracting that kind of size to a place like Wofford has historically been really difficult but having good footwork and sound fundamentals, whether innate or taught, can make an average player into a superstar. With such height, I'm hoping he's still fairly athletic and will be able to bang down low on both ends.

Good footwork comes from 2 things: some level of coordination and repetition. The more coordination you have the easier it comes and less reps it takes. But it still takes some reps. Read an article recently on Duke's Okafor and how hard he had to work to get the footwork down. He is as athletic a big man as I have seen in a while and even he had to get reps. Coach TJ will take of all that. Just look at Gordon and Neumann and how much they have improved. I have no worries. As long as Pegram is willing to work (and apparently he is), we will get him where he needs to be.
BTW - I love the "bloody a nose" comment by MY. Give me a big strong 6'10" 250 kid who likes contact and has a high basketball IQ all day long.

Good hands and footwork are just hugely important. Matt Pegram might not be another Noah Dahlman, but, with his size, if he can catch the ball OK and get decent position, he should have a chance to be really good. Again, I'm kind of surprised that there weren't bigger schools recruiting him.

I tell you who was a big guy at Wofford who could play, and that was Tyler Berg. He had injury problems and, it seemed (though I don't know), maybe was a guy who frustrated the coaches at times. Maybe he "disappeared" from time to time. But, when motivated, that kid was outstanding. Howard Wilkerson, too. When he was on his game, I think Howard might have been the most physically dominating player I've ever seen at Wofford.

To Dude:
Is Fletcher MaGee Wofford's?

You posted the highlight video, but how do we know he's going to be a terrier?

Here is another video of Magee. I think the first video is better because it shows him playing in games. This one only shows him shooting but still just watching him shoot makes me think that he will be a good if not great Terrier. http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/fletcher-magee

What's the scholarship limit? Is it 12 or 13? We already have 12 accounted for next year.

EDIT: Nevermind, answered my own question: http://www.scholarshipstats.com/ncaalimits.html
