Jim Boeheim and Syracuse

Postby woffordgrad94 on Fri Mar 06, 2015 11:25 pm

I used to think Jim Boeheim was one of the top coaches and men in college basketball. I remember being so happy when he beat testicular cancer and returned to coaching. But now that it has come out that he did not have any control over his team and has allowed players who failed multiple drug tests to continue plying, among other violations, I have lost a ton of respect for Mr. Boeheim. I relly love college basketball and this stuff really saddens me. I fear that it is just pretty much status quo to cheat to win at many of the Power 5 conference programs (as well as some other programs) and that Syracuse is far from an isolated incident. This kind of stuff makes me appreciate what we do at Wofford that much more. Mike Young runs a clean progrm and graduates nearly all his guys. And I have to say that if it EVER came out that any program at Wofford was cheating to win, it would hurt me far more than a winless season. But I don't think I have to worry about that.

The Academic game is played by a vast majority of the Power 5 conferences, I fear. However, the ignoring or covering up of failed drug tests seems far beyond the pale. A Hall of Fame coach lost a bunch of wins and a lot of dignity.

Ironic that academic scandals are included in this and the NCAA drops the hammer while just last week they said academic fraud was beyond their mandate when the ongoing troubles at UNC were being discussed. With as much as has come out about what's gone on at Carolina, either they ought to be on probation with a bunch of wins/championships taken away or they ought to lose their academic accreditation, or both.

That is just an example of how ridiculous and inconsistent the NCAA is. I'm all for catching cheaters and such, but they really need to get their stuff together.
