UNCG is only playing six scholarship players and Lamot is a walk-on, but makes a lot of little plays for the Spartans. It will be interesting to see how they play today. I said last Saturday before any games were played that if I could have my way, the Mocs would avoid UNCG, VMI and Samford all until the final, because I felt like those three were all playing pretty well. Two out of three got stuck in the other half of the bracket. I was glad to see it. I really think UNCG is a tougher match-up than Western Carolina or ETSU for Wofford with how those teams are playing right now. Maybe that changes after I watch the WCU-ETSU game today. But, regardless, this is a tough game for the Terriers. Really interested in watching it.
I did not think Furman or The Citadel posed much of a threat to the Mocs, but if Croone is going to play like he did last night, maybe the Paladins can be a threat. Still, Furman hasn't won back-to-back games against D1 teams all season long. I am hoping there isn't a first time for everything in this case.
Western Carolina-ETSU- Maybe the winner gains some confidence and starts playing better? WCU tends to play well in Asheville. ETSU got some rest- maybe that will help them for a stretch run.
VMI-Mercer is a pretty interesting game. The Bears are the better team, but VMI's style poses a threat to everyone. I am interested to see if a team beats VMI what they look like the next night as well. I picked VMI, but I almost rather the Mocs play Mercer, just because if they play VMI and win, playing Wofford the next night will be brutal. If they beat Mercer, they will be a little more rested when they battle Wofford. I think the Mocs have a better chance of beating VMI than Mercer, so I'm not sure. Just a thought....
