1st Socon Series

Saturday: http://athletics.wofford.edu/news/2012/ ... h=baseball
Sunday: http://athletics.wofford.edu/news/2012/ ... 20214.aspx

Positives:
Defense made one error all weekend, which I assume was the result of playing on a better infield. No idea why the grounds crew neglects our infield, but this should a wake-up call for them.

Negatives:
Offense struggled the majority of the weekend and got out hit 27-17.
Pitching struggled the whole weekend.

We got swept...so there is no positive. The object is to win games, and we couldn't even win 1 out of 3. I wish I could say I'm surprised, but it is really just par for the course for an underfunded, neglected program. I have to pity those hardworking kids on the team...they are forced to compete with a hand tied behind their backs, and in a conference as strong as ours, that will always spell disaster. But until the core issues are addressed by the college and its athletic department, nothing will ever change. It's such a shame given the rich history of baseball at the school.

You know what hurts is that tonight as I watched Furman play South Carolina, I was told Furman's president loves baseball so he took a trip to Rice University to see how they do it. Rice is a top level baseball program with high academic standards, tuition, etc.
Well, he got it. Furman's president worked a deal that now has the baseball program fully funded with THREE times the scholarships Wofford has.
He has a new baseball field being built and a new baseball complex being built.
Good for him!!!
I now have a reason to pull for the purple!! they get it!!!!

They aren't getting a new field. Just a new complex with some sprucing up of the existing stands. Biggest addition is the schollies. Smolla does seem to get "it" but pull for them?????? Seriously???????? Will NEVER happen for this Terrier.

I hear you Ruckus. Never a good enough reason to pull for a furple. On a brighter note OUR baseball team has just taken the 2 time defending national champs into extra innings.

Aside from the extreme pride in the team and coaches and pure joy of gloating to all my friends who are arrogant USC fans, I'll take winning a weekend series v top SoCon teams any day. That being said, this is a great win for our program. Hopefully, our coaches and players use this as a stepping stone and big lift in confidence that they can use later on in conference play. Glad to see some success and accolades come to a group of hardworking kids and coaches who deserve a return on their sizable investment. Great day to be a Terrier!!!!!!
