STARTER TRANSFERRING

I hope there's nothing more to the story than what is said below.

Wofford's Williams plans transfer to USC

TheBigSpur.com reports Wofford outfielder Jake Williams plans to transfer to the University of South Carolina and is hopeful of not having to sit out a transfer season because Wofford doesn't offer the major he wants and USC does. Another product of the powerhouse Riverside High program in Greer, Williams hit .348 as a freshman and .304 as a sophomore. He had 18 home runs over two seasons and started all 99 games he played in. The Gamecocks could lose starting left fielder DeAngelo Mack to the baseball draft in June, creating a possible opening for Williams. Or, Williams could open the possibility of center fielder Whit Merrifield moving to the infield, where he was used in high school.

Williams will have to sit a year. The fact that Wofford allegedly doesn't have the major he wants makes no difference.

I don't understand the motivation for this since competition for a spot will be muchgreater at South Carolina. Of course facilities and on the field results could play a part, but in the end, I'd have to think it's better to play everyday for a team with a losing record than sit the bench for one that wins.

I don't think we know yet what the record of the 2010 Terrier baseball team is.

I was referring to 2009 and going off the trend since we haven't had a winning season since 1991 by my count.

I understand that hope springs eternal, but I think I'm fairly safe in that assumption for now. If I am wrong, I will be happy to declare myself so at the end of next season.

I too think your assumptions are safe, but for the sake of the team, I hope we're both wrong.

My sentiments as well. I will always support our players. My patience may wane for coaches, but I have ultimate respect for those who don the Old Gold & Black because I realize the sacrifices they make.
