Thanks for the heads up, Hobo. That was some kind of game last night. Both pitchers were really strong, and each team had chances to win and lose. Coach Todd made a great decision to use a replay on a close play at first that was called wrong against us and corrected by the replay. Turned out to be the winning run.

Dogs win Saturday 5-2 ... played very smart efficient game. Have two chances tomorrow to win the title, starting at noon. https://woffordterriers.com/news/2019/5 ... nship.aspx

I hope I don't put the jinx on the game tomorrow. If we win the championship we could be the first team since 1955 to win three of them - in different sports - in the same year in the SoCon.

We just ran out of gas. However, did I hear the announcers correctly-that we only have one senior on this team? Bodes well for the baseball doggies. Great effort and especially finish to the season.

We really had our chances, especially in the second game, but could not get sparks when we needed. Proud of them nonetheless. https://woffordterriers.com/news/2019/5 ... -game.aspx

Agreed. very proud of this group. typical SHD team. 'quit' is not in their vocabulary. There are six seniors - Reginelli, Higginbotham, Massey, Tatham, Keller and Garcia. Higginbotham is probably the hardest one to replace as he is one of our best pitchers/players. But IMHO the freshmen and sophomores are better so replacing the seniors is not too difficult. Not to say the seniors will not be missed - they will be missed. Take for instance Matty Brown and Hayes Heinecke. Two FR that are some of our best players among other FRs that are very good too. And then there are SO guys like Colin Davis. How many times has he made a spectacular play in the outfield ? To summarize the future is bright if not blinding

Many don’t understand how we ran out of gas like we did. We were in the winners bracket...it should have been our opponents that ran out of gas. All those extra games Mercer had to play and they still had more in the tank than us. Something seems wrong with that picture.

The answer to it all is pitching depth. The elephant in the room is that we lack it and that is why we lost. At the end of the day Mercer had more starting pitching options on their roster than we did. We still need more pitching depth. Cameron Bloodworth gave us a great outing against Samford. But we ran out of options after him. Higginbotham and Heinecke threw far too many pitches in their outings to be able to go on Sunday. Perhaps if the Yourke kid had been healthy he would have made the difference. The loss of Higginbotham is HUGE. He must be replaced and that will not be easy. This game is all about pitching depth. Of course I also think perhaps Lady Luck just sided with Mercer more on Sunday too- luck is also a huge part of baseball.

At least as big a problem in the second game was offense, failure to get timely hits and move runners ... we had done better at that in recent games.

I didn't hear anything about Yourke being hurt, just that he wasn't an option last couple weeks it seems. Mercer didn't have too much more depth. their best closer pitched both double headers Sat and Sun, as well as Thurs and Fri. More than 1 inning in all of them. surprised the kids arm hasn't fallen off.

I think we had more than 1 senior but only one when considering top 2 or 3 pitchers and position players (2b and SP were seniors). whole league looked young in key spots (including Mercer who got hot offensively to end it).

I felt like at the end of the day we gave the 2nd game away. we beat Samford Saturday playing perfect defense, and just too many outs to a team hitting it way too well. those Terriers kept battling though tot heir credit.
