Terriers win their conference opener, beating Mercer 4-1. Austin Higginbotham pitched a complete game, giving up only four hits and one run while striking out 11. The team is 18-10 overall and 1-0 in the games that matter most.

Boys took 2 out of 3 in the 'Whee this weekend to continue a strong start to the Socon schedule. I thought we might struggle this year with some major departures from last year but the squad is holding up well.

Why can’t we ever beat PC in baseball? We beat their butts in pretty much all other sports and they’re really not that good. We have lost three games to them this season! I know it’s non-conference but it still sticks in my craw a bit. I guess to be honest, I see PC like so many FU folks once saw (and some still do) see us- as “little brother “.

I'm with you 94. They've had our number in close games over the last couple years. Always seems to be a 4-3, 5-4 or extra innings game.

Loosing to PC just gets in my grill. I think it goes all the way back to 1985 in football. They beat us on a horrible dropped pitch after we had them beat. Have not liked them since.

Oh well, we bounced back in a BIG way against VMI in a conference game that matters a lot more. Beat them 19-4! We are now 5-2 in the SoCon! Doubleheader with the Keydets today starting now!

Terriers clobbered the Keydets again 15-4 in the opener today then lost a tough disappointing 5-4 game in game 3. Apparently VMI held back their ace pitcher for this game to go against our 3rd starter, basically admitting they couldn’t compete with our top 2 starters. But I guess I have to give them credit for doing so; it was a good bit of coaching strategy as it kept them from being swept...barely. All in all, despite missing a great chance for a sweep, the Terriers had another good weekend of SoCon baseball, winning its third straight series and going to 6-3 overall in the SoCon. We are in great shape as we have excellent pitching depth and the ability to manufacture a lot of runs with our speed and well as some guys that can put the ball out of the park...exactly the kind of team you need to win a conference tourney. Next weekend we travel to ETSU for what will be a very good series against an excellent Bucs team. Stay tuned, a lot of baseball excitement is ahead!

Terriers split two games on the road in Johnson City against a tough ETSU team. The third game was cancelled due to rain. We are now tied with the Bucs for second place in the conference at 7-4. After a mid-week home game against UNC Asheville, first place Samford (9-1 SoCon) comes to King Field next weekend for a huge SoCon series.
