This is a huge win over a quality team. Gibson and Nichols were
terrific but they have been all season. Looks like the key to our
turnaround is the play of Whatley under the boards. He had another
double-double and seems to have gained a ton of confidence.

Hats off to Coach Young and the Terriers!

This game more than made up for the loss at Furman.

They warmed up with 15, and we warmed up with 12. It really hurt to see Marshall on crutches, but Whatley has stepped up his game, and was a presence in the paint for almost all of the game. In addition, Godzinski and O'Conner both have tremendously improved their game in the last month.

Each of the last eight games has been decided by 7 points or less, with two going to overtime. We went down 72-67 in the first minute and a half of OT, but found a way to pull it out.

This is a scrappy, determined bunch of players, and win or lose, it's a pleasure to watch them play.

Thanks for the help last night, CofC moves into 3 seed for now. I said it after our game, I do not look forward to our rematch at your place in 2 weeks. Ya'll have given us fits in Spartanburg over the past 5 or so seasons. I'll bet you right now that you win your opening game on Wed here in Charleston and then give one of the top 3 seeds fits on Thu, maybe even pulling of an upset. Keep the faith, you guys have earned a break at some point (just hope it doesn't come at the Cougs expense).

Understood, chascougs, and thanks for those thoughts- you'll understand if we'll take a "W" anywhere and anyway we can, especially this year.

We've been snake-bit so long, we've forgotten what it feels like to go through a year with everyone healthy, so we've gotten to really appreciate the efforts of our backup guys the past several years.

Good luck on the rest of your schedule with everybody except the Terriers. 8)

See you in Spartanburg on the 17th!

It's amazing how this turnaround has changed my outlook on our
basketball program. The pattern of injuries and losing had dimmed
my confidence in Mike Young and his players but now, with the way
this bunch has handled adversity(much like our football team), there
is every reason to be optimistic. With Gibson, Nichols, Salters, and
Godzinski back next year along with the newcomer, Dahlman, to help
Whatley under the boards, there is every reason to feel we should be
very competitive. Ain't it great to be a TERRIER?

I too have changed my outlook. I think our concern over basketball (and baseball too to a lesser extent) centers around a significant strength and conditioning issue rather than coaching. It is no surprise our tide is rising on improved post play and Whatley gaining some confidence.

Playing good ball at the right time? That was a tough team. Great win! All I want is a win in the SoCon tournament.

We'll find out how we're peaking when we play Davidson away in about 10 days. That will be tough in their place, but will be a good test going into tournament season.
