Recruiting

With the current national exposure of our basketball team, it is reasonable to assume that recruiting will be positively impacted, and not only for men’s basketball. Our name is out there in a favorable way, and many talented men’s and women’s players in all sports are bound to take notice. In the short term, would love to see us get a promising big like Cam for men’s basketball for next year. We should see a good response from non-athlete good students as well, who have to like our players’ enthusiasm and how they are acquitting themselves on and off the court.

Our basketball success this season may help us to get a quality big man to sign. But I don’t see it helping recruiting in other sports like baseball or in the general student population. Face it, most students don’t come to Wofford for its sports programs. I was in the minority at Wofford as a big sports fan- most of my classmates had only a passing interest or frankly couldn’t care less.

The exposure of basketball is a MAJOR contributor to overall enrollment recruiting. At the larger schools success on the field has meant the world to the admissions office, and there is no reason not to believe it will be the same for Wofford. The exposure to the young folks may mean something different to each of them, but the overall exposure gets them and their parents to see Wofford as a neat place with good students and athletes. Ask anyone in the admissions office what they expect and I would imagine it would surprise you. There is no way to afford the exposure that ESPN, CBS Sports, the Washington Post, NY Times, State and so many other media outlets are giving and are going to give Wofford. If we were to win one, two or more games it will ramp up accordingly.
As to recruiting, my guess is that this year is close to wrapped up; but wouldn't it be nice if we could find more big men and shooters.

We have one more scholarship to give for next season. It is most people’s guess that Wofford will go after a forward/center type player (big man) as the two earlier signees (Zac Ervin and Hunter Cattoor) are both guards.

and we are set at PG for 2 more years before needing to recruit another. Between Storm, Ryan, DTL and Hollowell we are not lacking for ball handlers.

Chavez came to us as an unexpected transfer. We can hope there is another big man out there who wants out of his current situation.

Dorman has some talented players coming out next year- would be great to grab either of them if they have interest in staying home. Looking at 247’s rank of S.C. basketball prospects, it seems many of the top 10 escape to out of state schools that are no better than Wofford, either academically or athletically. Would be nice to use our recent run of success to parlay that into recruiting success.

The great post from NH Dude regarding watching practice on Friday should be on this recruiting site (and I would copy it an post it if I knew how), in that he references the red shirted players and the special attention coaching for them. In addition to our recruits, we have at least two RS players who will contribute.

Do y'all think Wofford has a chance with P.J. Hall, whose dad was a standout back in the D2 days?

Sounds like he's high on USC's list and is maybe being courted by other big schools. I haven't seen him play, but he must be a darn good player. It could be nice timing -- if he came in during Aluma and Goodwin's senior year.

I'm sure Jerome has put a bug in his ear, while allowing him to make his own decision

It would be awesome if we could reel in someone of his caliber. He’s a top 60 recruit in the class of 2020 so he would certainly be our highest ranked recruit ever. Still, it would be painful to see him go elsewhere in state when he’s a legacy here and we’re the premier college basketball program in the state of SC.

Sounds like USC is recruiting Hall really hard.

According to this neat article, Wofford is recruiting a kid named Michael Moreno, from KY.

Here's a clip. Looks somewhat undersized but very tough and versatile. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WF8aWqF5xuQ

The national signing period is April 17-May 15. No doubt a lot is going on behind the scenes.

Hopefully the focus is on Wofford's great season and positive prospects for next year and beyond and not on rumors from the coaching carousel.
