We used zone more this year than I can ever recall, even though it was not that much. Look at some teams in the tourney playing zone like Duke, Syracuse and others. Now they have some serious length to play it as well as some big shot blockers down low but I think it could work for us a lot more. We have trouble preventing penetration from quick guards and the zone would slow that down somewhat as long as you can guard the high screen at the top of the key. if nothing else, it will save or shooters' legs (Magee in particular) from having to guard other shooters around multiple screens all day long.

If you watch zone teams like Syracuse, Duke, or Temple back in the day, they play it with a lot of man to man principles. Their zones are really just loose man with lots off ball/ball screen help. Zones are tough to rebound out of and obviously Mike Young has little faith in our ability to execute in it. Plus teams that shoot it well should attack them well.

This photo was posted on Twitter. Caption: "First Annual Meeting of Coach Mike Young's Coaching Tree"
Wish there was a listing of each of the coaches. There are a few still playing somewhere that probably will become coaches as well. Pretty impressive.

Just found out Mark Prosser, former Wofford assistant, has recently become the coach at WCU. Nice guy, good coach. Mike Young has helped nurture some talent in the basketball world.

Drew Cottrell sounds like a good get for a walk on. Has a 4.0 gpa and scored over 1400 on the SAT. Sounds like he has good all around skills. http://www.phenomhoopreport.com/2017/07 ... cademy-ga/

What a great opportunity for our team and coaches. Not only is this a great trip and a chance to see the world, but it is also a chance to get the freshmen involved early and bind the team together for what will be perhaps one of the most interesting Wofford basketball seasons in our history. We play a number of powerhouse teams both at home and away, and we have the potential to be very good. There will be nothing like hitting the road with a team loaded with upperclassmen leadership and a number of rookies. What a great experience for our guys.

Any reports on how the practices are going? How Fletcher's game may have grown? Is there a point guard battle? The new guys?

The basketball team left for their pre-season trip to Portugal. Should be interesting to see how they fare.

I think the trip is just a great opportunity for those guys. For the seniors it is somewhat of a reward for their hard work. For the freshmen-what an introduction to Wofford basketball! I don't think the outcome of the games is of any consequence compared to the experience they get being in a foreign country together.
