CIT

Figured this deserved its own thread. We get a bye then will face a team based on who wins in the first round. There isn't a set bracket, matchups are reset after each round. I don't see anything saying it, but we might be the top seed. Good to get at least one more home game though.

The school and media sure are being quiet about it. Would really like to be able to plan a schedule.

According to Shanesy, we will not get a home game, so disregard that part.

No home games? Damn, my excitement for this event just went right out the window. A trip to NC A&T or Liberty ain’t exactly the stuff of legend. I bet the team isn’t that hype for it either to be perfectly honest. A first round defeat would not be shocking.

Color me confused. How does a No. 1 seed not get a home game? It’s especially confounding when we don’t even know who we play yet! What if the team we play has a smaller gym and/or will sell fewer tickets?

Is there a difference in the perception of playing CBI vs CIT? Is one considered more “prestigious“ than the other?

It sounds like they do it like the way the FCS playoffs-you bid to pay the committee for the rights to play at home. Highest bidder between the two schools gets the game. On the internet I have run into stories of various programs that chose not to play in a post season game once they missed the NCAA. Isn't South Carolina in that group?

If we play as has been outlined earlier, we will go to Lynchburg and play Liberty; who beat A&T by 13 earlier tonight. The games are on CBS Sports Network. That could be a Wednesday night game? I will check on the Liberty site and see if they have announced it.

OK- I suppose our source has to be the Lynchburg newspaper, which says that Liberty will play one of the top four seeds between Saturday and March 20. If they are paired regionally we would travel up the road to Lynchburg. It is about as far as VMI but a little easier to reach.
However, Hartford is playing at San Diego right now, so that would be an interesting delimma if Hartford were to win.

Traditionally, I'd say the CBI is slotted above the CIT, but that this year I'm not sure. It seems that most of the Power 5 teams used to do the CBI, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore and the CIT was up to 32 teams a few years ago and now only has 20 so that indicates that the economics are stacked against both tournaments. Couple that with the fact that someone else tried and failed to launch another tournament called the Vegas 16 that never even got off the ground and it doesn't paint a good picture.

It seems to me that this is a good deal in that it provides extra practice and game time and at least a nominal shot at some media attention, but one of the CBI and CIT might need to fold or have them both merge into one more viable entity. Since the NCAA owns the NIT now I am sure that neither the CIT or CBI are being cut any slack. For that matter, maybe both go away and the NIT expands to 64 teams which would be OK, too.

My bottom line is that more basketball is good for Wofford and all other programs, so however they arrive at that is positive. I don't know if Wofford can go far in the CIT, but I like that we have a team that for the most part if returning next year and because of this they will be able to practice a few more times and play at least one more game together as a reward for a good season and in preparation for what could be an even better season next year.

Better clear my schedule and gas up the car! Sounds wacky to me that last night even our coach said we wouldn't have a home game. Regardless, I plan to support our dogs.
