Need another road win today. The Mocs have lost four of their last five.

They match up with us way too well. If our guys are to be anything in the tournament we need to build on the game Thursday night. We have the talent. Do we have the will and the heart?

True. We need to rebound and play tough D ... no easy baskets for them.

Does anyone know that if furman and wofford are tied on won/loss records that whether the point spread on games between them (furman is larger) decides a seeding for the tournament?

Wow, this team is as sloppy with the ball as any Wofford team I have seen. They have no sense of value of the ball. In addition, at this point in the first half the personal foul totals are really against us. Two or three illegal screens. This could be such a good team if they passed the ball well.

They are getting too many wide open looks.

The foul disparity is 10 for us and 4 for Chatty. WAY too much. If you add the off-the-ball offensive fouls to the TO total we are ridiculous in that catagory. Is our team really slow-that could be the reason for poor passing, poor defense and not getting the open shots. First time I have thought of it, but may be.

At the first TV time out in the second half it is an 8 foul disparity. Just bad officiating.

That was quite a one man show. However, when your one man is as special as Fletcher it seems so natural. 45 is a BIG NUMBER!

To reminisce a little: When I was at Wofford, playing in my hometown was Earl "the Pearl" Monroe. Earl played for Winston-Salem State, and he was really special. WSS was coached by a legendary wonderful man named Clarence "Bighouse" Gaines. Coach Gaines was at one time the winningest coach of all time. They had good players surrounding Earl, but it was one of the most unbelievable shows you could ever see. WSS played most of their games on campus, but they scheduled a number of games at the Winston-Salem Coliseum to make money while Earl was there. I was fortunate enough to go whenever I was able, and nothing could touch what we were watching. Earl played before the 3 point line existed, and he would shoot it regularlly from WAY beyond what became the arc. He could drive it, stop and pull up, or shoot it from way out. I'm not going to look it up, but I think he AVERAGED 45 per game that year. Granted, some of their competition wasn't tremendous, but lots of it was; and he played great regardless.
Fifteen or so years later, when we were young men and Bighouse was much older he was the speaker at our Y Men's club which really was a sports lovers group- that met regularly and had great speakers- he told a great story. It may have been our first meeting of the Fall, and Bighouse told us that in June Earl had called him up and wanted to come see him. Now Earl had played for years with Walt "Clyde" Fraizer in the backcourt of the Knicks, but he was reaching the end of his career. The way I remember the story, House said Earl sat down and they talked awhile before Earl said "coach, they don't want to pay me. After all these years they only want to give me a one year deal for $250,000." Bighouse thought about it a little bit and said, "Earl, tell me something." "What's that, coach," said Earl Bighouse said "Earl, what do you think you can do next year and make $250,000? You better get back up there and sign that contract while you can!" We all fell out laughing.

Bighouse loved telling that story to anybody and everybody who would listen.

My point is this: You younger guys and gals and especially any students who may read this: Appreciate what you have got in Fletcher Magee. It doesn't happen very often, and when it does you will have memories that will last a lifetime.

Glad to see the team pick up a couple of road wins. Especially in a game in which the foul calls were so lopsided against us all day. Basically Fletcher Magee beat the Mocs AND the Zebras with his career 45 point performance It makes me feel a little better about our chances of winning games in Asheville, though I still think we’re somewhat of a long shot to win the SoCon tourney. I just don’t think we can take down ETSU. But if we get hot again and play well, we could potentially pull a surprise.
