Oh no!
His Twitter:
"Wofford, my love, I will miss you dearly. Forever thankful to Mike Young for the opportunity of a lifetime. Excited for the next chapter!"

When you are a top quality program with top quality assistants, others will notice and come calling. Sucks to lose Tim, but I wish him well. Hard but not impossible to replace.

One of my favorite players and coaches who have ever represented Wofford. Classy classy guy. He will be missed ... his talent, kindness, and motivational abilities.

He will be missed greatly. Had a great relationship with players and I think was a valuable recruiter as well. Wonder where he is headed...

Unusual that he would announce his departure before announcing his destination.

What a class guy-player, coach, person. Whatever is taking Tim from Wofford has to be a great opportunity. He deserves it.

You gotta be proud of our guys climbing the ladder of coaching. It says so much about Wofford when others want the training given by our head coaches.

We have a better basketball program than JMU. Our new facilities blows theirs away. However, I'm certain we do not have their resources as to the ability to pay assistants.

We finished last year ranked 176 in the final Sagarin Ratings in a down year. JMU was 9-23 and ranked 228. In the last 10 years we have consistently had a better ranking than them. The Colonial, as a conference, is stronger (UNC-W, CofC, William and Mary) than the Southern but only marginally so.

That being said I wish Tim nothing but the best. Who knows maybe we shall see him again some day on the sidelines.

Me thinks this move smells of disappointment in being passed over for Associate Head Coach position when DK left for PC (same could be said for the Drew Gibson move too).
And more $$$ of course.

Yeah, losing assistants may reflect the success of WC's program.

Still, I think this presents a real challenge for Mike Young. To replace multiple key assistants at once could be tough. He'd built what seemed to be a strong and cohesive staff. I hope he can put together a solid group incorporating the new assistant coaches.

I am thinking significantly more money was the biggest reason. James Madison is a state school more than ten times as large as Wofford, with over 21,000 students. They simply can pay more. Also, of course, career-wise every assistant we have had has naturally wanted to broaden and deepen his experience and contacts, and maybe be a head coach one day ... it is the nature of the business. There is another bright young coaching talent out there with a similar skill set; our job now is to meet the challenge and find him ASAP.

Regardless of why he left, I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for Tim Johnson. From his playing days to his coaching years he's been a wonderful asset to the basketball program and the college. He will be missed but more importantly he will be remembered with high regard and gratitude. I wish him all the success in the world at JMU and beyond.
