Hmm. Glad he got the job if he wanted it but I think they will be D2 in 2-3 years. They have HUGE money problems.

Dustin is talented and hardworking and has done a lot of good things for us; I wish him the best. PC has made a good choice.

We are fortunate to have an experienced group of assistants and will need to carefully make our future choices.

Agreed. PC gets a great coach and we lose one. Inevitable that he would lead a program. Wish him nothing but success at PC and beyond. I wonder if MY will add another former player to this staff?

Here's to hoping Noah Dahlman returns to Wofford once he hangs it up for good in Europe. He was one of the most fundamentally sound players I've ever seen in person as well as an excellent member of the Wofford community- MY would be lucky to have him on staff.

The deal with assistant basketball coaches is that you want to bring them in and have them do a good job and move on. Kerns has done all that and more. Now it is time to bring in another great up and coming coach. Maybe everyone on the staff moves up one slot and we hire a new guy at the bottom of the staff or maybe we bring in someone from the outside like Kerns and Paul Harrison. Dalhman would make a great assistant coach if he wanted to do that down the line but I don't think this is the time. Who knows, we may even see Kerns back in Spartanburg at some point. Mike Young will retire sometime and Kerns could be near the top of the wish list when that day comes.

The benefit to having all of these assistant coaches doing moves is that the day Coach Young hangs it up as a Terrier we'll have plenty to choose from. Promoting within staff would be cool, but it's also good to have the option of a coach who has head coaching experience.

At the end of the day, what benefits the program is the fact that the gravitational pull of Wofford to former players/coach is strong. They love this school and team. There's no question why we've had former players come back to coach so often.

Looks like FU assistant Jay MaCauley will be coming in board to replace Kerns as Associate HC. He has been at FU for 3 years and was at GWU for 3 years prior. He was with us for 2 years in '09 and '10. Played at UGa and is from Marietta Ga so has strong recruiting Ga ties.
Like this hire.
