Maybe not so great:

A 12-point defeat.

Not too worried, necessarily, as I figure coaches use a lot of different line-ups and experiment during scrimmages. But a few interesting points, for me:

-- Magee and Jackson each had only 8 points. I expect them both to have much better games on a regular basis.
-- Senior Derrick Brooks only played 7 minutes. Unless he's hurt, I guess he isn't in the mix for starting point guard. Theme-Love played the most, and Storm Murphy played some.
-- Pegram was Wofford's leading scorer. Interesting and perhaps an important thing to note.
--Nine points for Aluma, who played more than Lowery.

Jackson was 0-10 from the line; but 9 RBs.
MaGee 3-13 (1-4 from 3) with 5 assists.
Not exactly a sterling outing from our 2 best players.
Aluma is bright spot as is Pegram’s progress. Hoover contributed.
Murphy took no shots. Lowery - no points or RBs but a turnover.
Hollowell can help us.
We need to get A LOT better. Fast.

When is the last time a Wofford player was 0 for 10 from the line? 12 for 27 as a team ... that is where we lost. Lowery needs to find a niche; he may not be a scorer but he should be a rebounder and play solid D. Alema looks impressive already. Several guys played pretty well. .. only 11 turnovers. No need for alarm bells yet; we can build on this.

Lowery is s-o-f-t.
Aluma already looks like he will easily eclipse him as a F. Look for Aluma’s role to grow as season goes along.
We need Brooks and Hollowell to step up.
PG position needs more production.
But everything starts with Cam and Fletcher. And they just weren’t productive.
Got out rebounded too.
Consistent theme in last few years: light on boards and soft on D. Not the hallmark of our champ teams.
We are a year away. Hope we get some talent in this ‘18 class because ‘16 class looks like a complete whiff.

0 of 10? WOW! I would say he should have to shoot free throws in the gym until he makes ten in a row. But then he’d probably still miss during games...it doesn’t help. You can’t really practice free throw shooting. It’s mostly mental.

Not sure I agree (not yet, at least) about the 2016 class, Ruckus.

I'm hopeful that Theme-Love is going to be fine at point guard. And I really like Hoover. I think he's going to be a really good player.

We'll see how Lowery develops.

I forgot about theme-Love and Hoover so “complete whiff” is not accurate. I will retract that statement.
Very disappointing; how about that?

I think, and certainly hope, it is way too early to write off Lowery and Manning; they have potential to help next year if not this. Both have good size and good stats in high school. And Goodwin would logically be included in that class; he shows real promise.

The North Florida game will be a good test as the are a mid-major program from the Atlantic Sun. At the same time, they are very beatable and if we can’t beat UNF at home we are in worse shape than I thought.

Cam decided to come back and play today. Fletcher is going to rewrite all the scoring records. He let everyone get into the game today before going off. N Fla had a guy who could fill it up also. Great playing time for a lot of our younger players. N Fla came in here and gave us a game. This type of early close games will help us later. We have to have better ball control and movement by the point guards, but we knew that coming in. By the way, this was a very experienced and good refereeing crew, and they let the players play. Pretty unusual for an early game.
Storm is going to be really valuable at the point, but that big ZERO in the scoring column stands out.

I am all about honesty. And honestly, we are not very good right now. We barely scraped by a bottom of the barrel D1 program that came in here 0-5. We could have easily lost this game. Our problems are on DEFENSE mainly. We are just not tough and nasty on D like we used to be. We give up way too many open shots and also too many second chance baskets because we don’t get in there in rebound the basketball well. As was said in another thread this team is Charmin. I can already tell you the word our SoCon competition will use to describe us if we don’t toughen up and get meaner. It’s not a word I can say on this board but think “cats”. We have a ways to go. Defense is what wins games and championships. Fletcher Magee can drop 50 a game but if there’s no defense played and we lose those games then it’s all for nothing...and I’m sure Fletcher agrees.
