Couple point game with 15 minutes to go in the game. Had the lead for good portion of the game. Don't need to get too overcome with emotion and play within ourselves
"Ultimately, you are not defined by your height, weight, or speed; you'll be defined by your heart, you'll be defined by your passion." Coach Mike Ayers
We were overwhelmed at the end and lost by 22 points. The score indicates a real butt blistering, but that's not really what happened. We played very well for a while but the young team just couldn't sustain it for 40 minutes against a good SEC opponent.
Cam Jackson had 14 points and 8 boards in his return...I think he might end up being a beast for us. Nathan Hoover lead the team with 18 points in his Wofford debut. The team was a perfect 13 of 13 from the line. Plenty of positives. We just went cold from the field in the second half after shooting over 50% in the first half.
As often happens it is fun to watch our Wofford guys grow and mature throughout their careers. Four years ago we were floundering with a team we thought would be pretty good. Coach Young finally made a change at point guard and began playing a freshman named Eric Garcia. It turned around the whole season. Eric is now a senior and the obvious leader of this team. He was rock solid and steady for the part of the game that we were able to see today. It has really been fun to watch Eric progress. He came to us all the way from the Denver area, and gets to go back there and play this year. He has really been a treasure for us in Coach Young's system.
Garcia will be the standard for toughness and "stones" in my book for years to come. Loesing was better but we haven't had any that are guttier and grittier than EG. This is his team. Cam will be a force but I am still worried about us defensively. We have to be able to get stops because we will not shoot 50% night in and night out.
Teams kind of need a couple nasty perimeter defenders. Guys like Cam Rundles and Jamar Diggs. Great as Karl Cochran was offensively, he might have been equally valuable on the defensive side....could flat keep people from getting into the lane, could make a crazy-athletic play here and there to totally change the flow of a sequence.
But I am optimistic that this Wofford team can be really, really good.
We seem to be in good shape with smalls that can score, but the bigs have to prove they can play D and score on the inside. (Of course we said we had too many QB's before the season)

Agreed. His picture is in the dictionary under "Short Haired Dog". EG has been one of my favorite Terriers of all time ever since he got his shot down the stretch during his freshman year.
