Having watched both of the UNCG games I have no idea who is going to show up. UNCG had a short down period during league play, but have been strong lately. While ETSU is probably the best team in the league, UNCG has played awfully well down the stretch. They have good players at every position, and we need to show up strong across the board as well. Today our guard play was strong, but Cam got into foul trouble early. We need a real effort from Cam, Ryan and Matt, and we may need more help off the bench. Asheville must be a shooter's arena. It looks like a friendly place, and Wofford knows it well. I hope a bunch of Wofford folks make the trip up there tomorrow afternoon. It matters.

Furman is about to bow out, losing to Samford. It just goes to show the parity in this excellent conference. Since UNCG edged out the Paladins for the regular season title and automatic NIT berth, I am guessing the Paladins are done. It's doubtful they will get an NIT at-large bid. Although they could accept a bid to one of those minor postseason tourneys that costs money to play in. Speaking of the NIT, hopefully we can send UNCG there tomorrow. I have never cared for UNCG as a SoCon member. I would rather have PC in the conference than UNCG- at least PC has football. I know a lot of you would disagree with PC being in the conference, but they are not really all that dissimilar from us. Back in the late 90s there was some quite vehement opposition to our SoCon entry- but we have ended up having a good deal more success than most people thought we ever would. And I'm all for having more small private schools like us in the conference.

Wow, the Paladins almost made me eat my post. But Samford held on.

LOL Furman choking in the tourney. I'm sure they will be projected to be the front-runner in the conference next year but at least for this year, they are done.

Speaking of choking- Just watched Samford knock off Furman. Samford handled the last two minutes as poorly as possible. They kept fouling Furman, stopping the clock and giving them a chance to get set up on defense. Then Samford evidently got the ball in the hands of weak free throw shooters who missed their shots. Virtually every possession was a nightmare. Wow, to go from an 11 point lead to a one possession game was scary for those of us who take great delight in watching the Purple puke on themselves. DOWN GOES THE #2 SEED. Wouldn't be surprised to see the #3 seed go down next.

Enjoyed being in Asheville today. I can't make it tomorrow but Monday is a definite possibility. There's still work to do first, however.

Just went on ESPN to check out the Bracketology. I was shocked to see UNCG (the SoCon Champion designate) at a 15 seed. That seemed to me to be a very low seeding. Then I went through all the conferences and checked them out. There just aren't many weak teams this year projected into the tournament. It wasn't that long ago that we were hoping to be a 12 seed and had to settle for a 13. That's still lots higher than a 15. Very interesting. While our conference is deeper than it has been in a long time, that doesn't mean much in the seeding process. There isn't a team in the conference that wouldn't like to see the representative, whoever it is, play several games.

Which probably means there's no way we can avoid a 16 seed. I'm putting the cart before the horse, I know...but as a mere fan I can do that without consequences- I have no impact on results.

Mercer is giving ETSU a game. Mercer up 1 at the half!

Mercer starting to fade. They still have time, but they need to get it together quickly.

Eh, Bracket Matrix has ETSU as the SoCon rep and has them plugged in as the highest 14 seed. I can't imagine if ETSU/UNCG win that they'll be lower than a 14 seed and could very well become a 13 seed as other 1 bid conferences have their tournaments and the upsets ensue, as happens every year. http://bracketmatrix.com

If we play again like this, we will beat uncg. They were pretty rough on us in Gboro and we owe them.

If we shoot well again, we will have a great shot. If not, we are toast.

Worst blocking call I've ever seen. That's disgraceful. Ref trying to be part of the game right there.

Excellent game. There were a couple of questionable calls that hurt us to be sure. But we were right there. We just needed to hit a couple of more shots. Their size was a big factor. And we were also shaky from the charity stripe at times. Great careers for Eric Garcia and Ryan Sawvell just came to a close. Those guys will be missed. But we have a lot coming back, a couple of exciting newcomers, and a great brand new arena opening. And we never really thought this would be our year- we kind of always thought we were a year away. But we did some good things this season and look to come back strong in November. Here's to next year.

Yep. Bitterly disappointed with the officiating in the final minutes. That call for Jackson's 5th foul was atrocious but when you have a Euro player out there flopping like a soccer player, I guess you can get your calls. We had our chances and should have locked up our lead in the first half because Baldwin hit some really nice shots to get UNCG back in it. Still, cannot underscore enough how disappointed I am in the officiating down the stretch.
