One thing we could use is a shut-down stopper on the other team's best-scoring or ball-handling guard. Too many teams penetrated against us way too easily last year. Derrick has the quicks and physicality to stop that, while also rebounding and hitting the open man and shot. This could be his year.

That would be great. We need him to be that guy you descibed if we are to make a run at another NCAA berth. Our team will be very young. Derrick will be a junior, one of out more experienced guys. We need him to step it up, be a leader, defend, and get some key baskets for us.

"Last first practice in BenJo". Expect good things. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waenmheoANw

Garcia looks fit and bulked up. So do Sawvell and Allen. Jackson looks lean and quick. Magee, Brooks, Pegram, and Stumpe bringing production, experience and leadership.

Interesting, and unusual, combination of eight players with at least one year of substantial playing time, and six new players with an abundance of talent and potential (watch for several to get early PT).

And hats way off to Wagenlander and Perez, two selfless upper class walk-ons who for years have worked hard in every practice and played their butts off when asked, helping the team to get better.

If we are going to compete we have to recruit some freshmen who can play immediately. We are trying to move up and be competitive on a higher level.

Saw a few minutes...

The Tuckers (Justin & Kevon, FR) looked good; Eric and Ryan sere solid. RS fed Manning for an impressive tomahawk dunk. Squads were hustling...

Hoover needs to work on shot selection but has a nice stroke. Never saw a shot he didn't like. Coaching staff will need to work on him for "gunner's mentality". He will be much more efficient if he will wait for better looks. I thought Dishon Lowery looked good. Used both hands around the rim and through down one monster jam on nice pass from Sawvell. Didn't see Manning play much while I was watching. Tuckers both will play but may contribute more next year. I thought Love did a nice job running the O and got to the rim and paint a few times off the dribble. Sawvell looked very good - even stepped out a drilled a 3. We will be solid this year. May not have any eye-poppers except for 3 - point prowess with EG, Fletcher and Jaylen. Will have to play reaaallly well though to take down Chatty.

Thanks for the reports.

I'm curious about how Cameron Jackson is coming along. Seems like he could possibly be a real difference-maker for the Tdogs this season.

Cam looks great. Has really worked on his physique since coming to school. Apparently was on campus all Summer as well. He only played a little while I was watching so didn't get a great feel for where his game is but MY seems to be expecting a breakout from him this year.

We apparently scrimmaged Belmont today at Maryville College. We usually do this about this time each year. We lost both halves apparently which probably means nothing.
Season opens in less than 2 weeks.

LSU tied for third last year in the SEC. They are experienced and have some size. C of C and WFU beat them last year. Tough challenge but we have a chance.
1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, SEC network.
