Up by about 14 at half. Still shooting it well. Gordon playing with great energy and confidence. Brooks has had some nice full court penetrations too. Defense looks better; contesting drives and shots, and rebounding well.

Justin Gordon was excellent. Jaylen Allen missed a few, but his defense and ball handling were good. Mercer came back hard but we pulled it out 79-70.

Neumann continues to play his heart out, especially when it really counts. Our confidence level is very good.

Gutty effort...important win.
MY's post game comments, "Justin was special tonight and CJ had a couple of key baskets. It's February; so, it's winning time." Seemed pleased with the team's efforts and growing confidence.
"Have to be ready for anything from the Citadel and their frantic pace Saturday."

Interesting night in the SoCon. Samford lost to ETSU in OT at ETSU, and Chatty LOST to WCU at WCU. Since we end our season with games at ETSU and at WCU, that's particularly important to us. Furman and ETSU can still be #2 by winning, but if we win out we are the #2 seed with a complete bye. I know we played a depeleted Mercer team, but our guys took care of business. Mercer is well coached, and know how to do the little dirty things that great teams have to do. Fletcher was killing them, so they started killing him. Eric was getting hammered around pretty good. When Mercer started grabbing and holding in the second half if worked for awhile. Interesting how the coaches and players on both teams know what is going on, but the referees take awhile to catch on.

Furples thumped El Cid 95-75 last night. Not sure what to make of that necessarily. Furples are playing well, but El Cid's offense is live/die by the three. We led the entire game against El Cid, but they (and some absolutely horrible refereeing) gave us a late scare in Charleston. Hopefully, we will put this one away early and not let an opponent make another late run at us.

The Citadel does not play any defense...they simply try to outscore people. I do not like that system and I really don't think it can be successful in the long run over the course of an entire season. But it can be effective on any given night. It all depends on how we, their opponent, shoots. If we continue to be as hot shooting the basketball as we've been in the last couple of games, we have a great chance to top 100 points tonight and turn the game into a massive blowout. Of course if we happen to go ice cold, we have a good chance of losing the game. In any event, I sure hope we play better than the Lamecocks are today- they are getting EMBARRASSED at home against Kentucky right now! (and I love it)

Up 42-27 with 2:51 left. Enjoying Cremins on the call. So much praise for Mike Young and the Terriers. He lost enough against us. :D
