Bartow fired at ETSU. Surprising as he was very successful up there. Wonder if his dust up wih Collins and MY had anything to do with it?
And no surprise here but VMI HC Duggar Baucom supposedly in contract talks at El Cid. Driesell was hired over him last time around. He has done fairly well at VMI.

Reading the ETSU message board at times this year, it was evident that their fans hated Bartow. They did not think he was successful enough. At the start of the season, many of them were predicting a SoCon title. They have very high expectations up in Johnson City. They think they should be in the NCAAs every year and win some games in it. Every year should be like the Keith "Mister" Jennings era. Many fans were threatening to stop donations and many also said they would not renew season tickets next season if Bartow was there. So in my opinion the fans forced him out because his teams were not meeting their lofty expectations.

So the dust up may been more of a symptom of the problem than the problem itself. Bartow was under the gun for sure.
He did them a good job up there. I guess they expected to come into the SoCon and clean up. Unreasonable expectations for sure.

Sounds like Radebaugh from Chas. Southern is in the wings.

Barclay is from up there. But that means the Liberty job is wide open. AD Jeff Barber may come calling in Spartanburg.

In a conversation years ago with a coach who was extremely successful, he lamented that the fans had no idea how hard it is to get to the tournament. Recruiting, injuries, attitudes, etc are so hard to predict and control. The fans' expectations are completely unreasonable in so many ways.

ETSU needs to get real. They expect to join a higher rated conference and win automatically? They hadn't won the Atlantic Sun since 2010. They ought to change their name to "College of Charleston Northwest".

I know they won a number of SoCon titles in the late 80's and early 90's and a couple more before they exited to the A-Sun, but where does the expectation come from? They won one NCAA game in 1968 and one in 1992. Other than that, they've been one and done. 1968 was a much smaller tournament, so the only real talking point is their win over Arizona as a #14 seed in 1992, but they didn't make the Sweet Sixteen, so while it's a historic win for a team at their (and our) level, it hardly makes them Kentucky or UCLA.

I didn't see the incident between Bartow and Collins/Young so I can't say what happened, but based on what you all have described, it was inappropriate at best and possibly should have drawn disciplinary action. Either way, Wofford has moved on and now evidently ETSU has as well.

VMI's coach makes sense for El Cid as he has had some success in a similar environment and El Cid likely has more resources to bring to bear.

But no Tidewater region. We shall see.
