That is a tremendous article! The writer was successful in capturing the essence of our basketball program, and Wofford. Kudos to Coach Young, his coaching staff, and the players for all that they have achieved, both on, and off the court!

Thanks for sharing Ruckus. I agree that it was a nice complimentary article. But to me, the whole thing about Wofford being small, us being the David against all these Goliaths, has become a bit trite and played out. We are simply a good mid-major basketball program that is clean, has a good defense-first system in place, and is ran the right way with STUDENT-athletes.

Yeah, I'm getting kind of tired of our size being brought up. In 5 years, we'll have as good facilities in basketball as anyone in the country. If anything, talk about the academics of the players.

I wish the academic story was told better too. But this is great pub for our program and entire school.
While we are weary of the size/small school angle to our success, but that is truly what makes the story so special. When you consider the point of view for the majority of college fans being aligned with schools that have 10s of thousands of students, the fact that a little school of 1600 students (and top academics) is nothing short of miraculous. Everybody loves the underdog. Like it or not, that's us.
And the way we do it: defense, smart tough GOOD kids with high character, discipline, invisible stats, selfless team first play, is counterintuitive to the trends in college basketball with the one and dones, run and shoot, waves of fouls to give, no academics, look at me culture.
It is this juxtaposition that makes Wofford what it is, whether it's our football team, campus culture, etc. It's our essence of being. We are old school and it's nice to know those out dated, often scoffed at truisms of hard work, hands dirty, team first, WoCo 3D mantras still work today.
Would I like for us to be recognized for great athletes like Cochran, Gordon, Collins; or top academics (see Swinton as pre med major)? Sure, but we are a great story for those who care enough to look.
