What the heck happened to VMI tonight? They lost 85-56 to UNCG at home. The result of the game is not nearly as surprising as the 29 point margin. Consistency is the main thing lacking with many teams in this conference. It looks like the Keydets just came out and laid an egg tonight and they miss out on what most probably thought was a great chance for them to get a win towards getting that tournament bye...this could be a damaging loss for VMI.

UNCG was in a tailspin, and then this. The game was AT VMI, so it is even more of a surprise. 94, your point is very good. Consistency is so hard to maintain. Any team can go out on any night and play totally opposite of their norm. The person who could have picked our one loss at this point to be at The Citadel could make a fortune in Las Vegas. College basketball is an amazing sport.

If someone told me before the season that we were going to be 9-1 in the SoCon at this point, I would have said "I guess we must have lost at Chattanooga". The Citadel would have been just about my last guess. It just doesn't make sense to bet on college basketball (or any other sport really). On any day, anything can happen.

VMI does not make teams play defense. Tonight they did not make shots. That is a good match up for UNCG. They hate playing defense. I did pick VMI but it really is true that UNCG probably matches up with VMI better than they match up with anyone else. Honestly, they may match up well with ETSU for similar reasons. Just that ETSU does not miss shots like VMI. Maybe they match up with Samford too. But they won't beat patient offenses like Mercer, Wofford and probably even The Citadel.

JonMoc- You believing in Samford yet? They went up to WCU and beat them tonight, and WCU is generally a good team at home (only). Your Mocs were fortunate to escape the Barneys tonight. Our guys laid a smackdown on ETSU and then relaxed again. We missed a bunch of free throws that really cost us. Still, a win by 10 at ETSU is pretty good. We are winning without Karl Cochran carrying the scoring load, which is good and bad. Cochran is probably the best defensive player in the league, and he has played the conference season with a defensive ferocity. It seems that if we need him to score he will, but if the team can score without him is fine with it. We have about seven guys who can score most games. Chatty had better gird up for Thursday night-the D is coming.

If Karl catches fire this team plays on a whole different level

Hopefully we can get by a tough test at VMI (they played us very well at the BenJo) and set up that showdown a week from tonight vs. the Mocs. I expect the BenJo to be close to full for it.

Benjo will certainly be rocking next week. VMI is going to be really pesky though. I think Mercer is hitting their stride right now and I think us and them are going to be the top 2 seeds in the Socon tourney

We must've play really (cough cough) dirty to have beaten them by 10 on their home court.

When Samford was 0-8, I said they were much better than that and said last week if the season started again they would get a bye. So it is not that I didn't believe. I just looked at the schedule and said no way. When they were down 73-56 in tge second half, I said no way. Now I think they get the bye. One major run and improbable three from the corner changed everything.
