After falling behind by 10 early, we fought and won by 15, 58-43 I think it was. Our D was pretty solid after the shaky start. Jackson continues to contribute; Collins was good tonight. Cochrane played excellent D but they focused on him and he did not get in a scoring rhythm; played well though. Skinner continues to provide good leadership. Gordon pretty quiet; interested to see what stat sheet says. Garcia was gutsy but played within himself. Swinton and Brooks played well; Brooks had a sweet drive/layup when it was really needed. FT shooting was not very good and needs to get better.

Positives- 1) we shot a blistering 60% from the field 2) we played lights out defense, holding them to 42 points 3) we won another conference road game- any win on the road is big 4) balanced scoring- a lot of guys contributed 5) we are showing teams can't beat us by simply keying on Cochran

Negatives- 1) another slow start 2) poor free throw shooting- we can't afford that vs. Mercer 3) we got outrebounded

The only really important thing is the finl scoreboard. A win is a win. On to Mercer.

The stat sheet doesn't necessarily reflect the outcome of the game. We got murdered on the offensive glass (3-17), but mostly made up for it on the defensive side (28-18). They had more steals and fewer turnovers. They had 10 more fouls than we did (13-23). We shot horribly from the charity stripe (14-27, 51.9%). They had 60 total shots to our 35, but we made 21 ad them 19. If I saw the stats sheet and didn't know the teams, I'd have said we lost. Instead, we won by 16. Gutsy defensive effort. Regardless, we are in sole position of 1st place, and a huge game in 2 days against Mercer, who beat Chatty by 3 in OT.

Thom was a hoot on the radio tonight.

Solid victory. BTW, Mercer just took down Chatt in OT, 75-72.

ETSU lost at Furman. The Bucs are falling out of contention. Western Carolina got a big road win at VMI.

I think the magic numbers for us are 55 and 70.

We're undefeated when we score 70 and we're undefeated when we hold teams under 55. There are some games in the middle obviously, but when we score 70 points, the chances of us winning increase because our defense plays solid enough.

UNCG has a very tall team, and they got lots of tapped balls to pad the rebounding stats. Our guys took care of business in a very workmanlike game. They win with a crushing defense. After falling behind 12-2 early our guys just ground UNCG down. In the second half they tried to come out and jump trap Eric, even getting obviously physical with him. Eric did a good job, however, and played good minutes all the way to the end. This has got to help him with the confidence and maybe help loosen that ankle. Eric will be a large part of how we do the rest of the season. Spencer did a solid job getting the points when we needed them. Once again, Lee and CJ battled some big dudes and did it very well. Our guys drove it to the basket well and made some very frustrating layups that had to shake up UNCG. This was a game that had to be fought and won, leading our guys into the game on Saturday night against Mercer. I think Saturday night will be the last game against a conference team we haven't yet played. We're 8-1, having beaten Samford twice and everyone but The Citadel at least once. A 17-5 record is fantastic, but I don't think our guys are willing to stop there. Right now they are probably through with the snacks and settling down on the bus headed down I-85. They have a couple of days to prepare for a solid, defensive minded Mercer team.

http://woffordterriers.com/news/2015/1/ ... ath=mbball Jackson ... 4 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 points in 7 minutes. :!:

In addition to everything else he does, Skinner is a cog for the offense when necessary.

Allen ... 8 points, 3 assists, no turnovers, 2 rebounds in 21 minutes.

Neumann ... 5 rebounds and 1 assist in 23 minutes.
