I'm sure they will be better represented than a typical visiting team but a $50 fee and a 4 hour bus ride both to Spartanburg and another 4 hour ride back would probably be pretty strong deterrents as well. Plus, 2 buses is only ~100 people so they might be able to raise a little ruckus but probably pretty difficult to drown out the Terrier faithful with that size contingent. Regardless, our team's gotta get through the enigma that is UNCG before we can worry too much about Saturday.

Anybody much about UNCG? Offense/Defense preferences? Best players? Size? Strengths?

The Spartans look to have a pretty balanced scoring attack with five guys averaging double figures, lead by Tevon Saddler's 16.3 PPG. Sadler is listed as a 6'6" guard- he could be a tough matchup with that size, as could their center RJ White, who goes a bulky 6'8" and 280 lbs and averages 11.4 points and is their leading rebounder with 7.1 boards a game. Overall they average 70.5 PPG (middle of the SoCon pack) and surrender 74.4 PPG (below average). They are average shooting the ball (44% overall, 34% from three) but are not a particularly good free throw shooting team (66%) and they are 4-6 at home this season.

I actually misread, it's a free ride, but it's charged to their student account so they pay it in tuition.

I'm feeling good about this game regardless

We've gone to sleep at the wheel against UNCG before (and recently) which is something we surely can not afford to do this time around.

As for Mercer, let them do what they want. I am happy that they would try to organize something like that for us. It's a good sign for the conference and it's a show of respect for the Terriers. The SoCon needs more of a culture of that type.

UNCG is one of those teams it just seems to be hard to get up for. No natural rivalry. But we better find a way to do so.
I sense we're becoming the most hated and feared team in the SoCon...the "bad guy" that everyone wants to shoot down. The Citadel sure was happy to beat us...you'd have thought they had just won the SoCon tournament down there. But that's good for us. It means we're doing something right.

I have a feeling the team remembers how UNCG spoiled Aerris Smith's senior day last year at the benjo. They'll be ready. I would be very disappointed if we lost this one as it would appear the UNCG is not the most consistent team in the conference and I think they are solidly in the bottom 4. Then again, you could also say that about the Citadel, and they beat us. We have to stay focused, play our game, and play good defense. If we do that, we'll win going away.

I think we win 66-51.

UNCG has some talent and has been playing well of late. I think we know we need to play smart and hard.

While we play UNCG, the other interesting matchup will be Mercer hosting Chattanooga this Thursday. Will be interesting to see how that one shakes out and it should provide some good film for our coaches for Saturday and beyond.

Since Lawdog is in Greensboro he knows about UNCG better than most. I think they had high expectations coming into this season and it has been a disappointment. My guess is that there is heat on head coach Wes Miller, who now has his own players on the floor and should be producing wins by now. Wes is a good guy; former player at UNC who walked on and ended up being a valuable member of the team. He's young, energetic, and knowledgeable. However, it just hasn't come together yet for them. They are dangerous, because there are good players who haven't produced. We don't want to be the ones who wake them up.

Tonight we had the pleasure of spending some time with the Terriers at dinner we sponsored with Dave Murphy, past roundballer extraordinaire. What a courteous and classy bunch. Several said they hope we have a good crowd at the game tomorrow and against Mercer. If you ever get a chance to do this, an enjoyable and worthwhile evening is guaranteed.

Lawdog-

Kudos to you, Dave M and all who attended/organized the event. Nice touch!
I bet the team (players, coaches, managers, trainers, et al) appreciate your efforts and the opportunity to enjoy a great evening. Hope the pre-game gathering is also a huge success!

Beat UNC-G!

Sorry I could not be there. This group is fun to follow. Will be there tomorrow night and perhaps Saturday in Spartanburg.
