ETSU has some talent, and their press hurt us late. Our D could have been better late; we did some bad things in the last three minutes.

Amen, Lawdog. We got up by 21 and forgot to take care of the ball. I think it was more a lack of concentration than a press that bothered them. Lots of passes were totally telegraphed and weren't that hard to intercept. In some ways our guys were lucky to get a couple of breaks late. Every game is tough, and some more than others. We get two more teams we haven't seen next week. I think that will complete the swing through every conference team. Nobody said it would be easy. Love the way these guys play and defend and love each other.

Sounded like the refs swallowed their whistles. Almost lost control of the game. Not hard to defend if there are no fouls with contact.

I can't confirm this because ESPN box score is down for some reason but supposedly there were about 46 fouls called between both teams. CMY complained after the game. Honestly, sitting in the stands it looked like they almost were trying to make it a better game after we were up 20.

The refs were anticipating fouls, which I hate. There were 47 fouls called, which will always make for a bad game to watch. The SoCon refs just seem to muck up the games and make weird calls. It takes the continuity away from the game, and tends to promote more fouls. If the refs are constantly stopping the game, there is no flow at all. It probably didn't have an effect on the outcome, but it is not fun to endure. The problems we encountered were those of not valuing the ball. Just like in football, that ball has more value than anything else you can do. Hand it to the other guys and you have problems.

I was at the game, and that was some of the worst officiating I have ever seen. The let ETSU play rougher and rougher, which appeared to be their game plan, but the Terriers were tougher in the end. Mike Young used the word "disgusting" in the postgame interview when referring to the refs, though he didn't call them out directly. But it was right after he mentioned the phantom calls Riley was getting at the end.
The students were into it and and the ones behind the bench had to be pushed back from their coach after he and Mike Young got double technicals for yelling at each other. Our side got into it too. There were a bunch of old men standing up and yelling.

Heard Bartow elbowed Spencer. SoCon doesn't need that. Hope league looks at it closely.

That's when Coach Young blew up. Was protecting his player.

Uncharacteristic 18 turnovers, most in second half. Jaylen Allen came up big. Tough physical game, caused in part by the refs letting it get away (47 fouls, us 24, they 23). From Coach's remarks, he appears unhappy by some of the things we did late, and perhaps the refs letting things devolve into a "circus". http://woffordterriers.com/news/2015/1/ ... ath=mbball

It could have been worse with fouls. The Citadel-VMI game yesterday afternoon had 60 fouls called in it. Saturdy SoCon refs. And a "circus" is a very good decription of late in the second half of our game. Our poor handling of their press and protection of the ball, the constant whistles, the incident between the coaches with Spencer, and the loss of the internet game feed, etc. But when all was said and done and the game ended, we had the bigger number on the scoreboard and that's what matters the most. And Mike Young said the incident with Bartow was "no big deal" and that Bartow was "a dear friend", so perhaps the hatchet was buried between the two. I doubt we see any kind of continuation of this up in Johnson City.

Yeah, so in spite of them scoring 64 points on us (with about 20 or so points being from FT) we held them 13 points below their season average. We play good defense even when it appears we don't I guess. If we consistently keep teams under 60 we're in good shape to win, period.

Apparently, Bartow couldn't let the incident go after the game. He might ought to look in the mirror
http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/article ... s-up-short

“In the heat of the battle, sometimes things happen,” Bartow said. “That’s an old Mercer trick where guys get right in your grill as I’m trying to talk to one of my players. I just don’t like a guy on another team trying to crowd our space. I just think it’s disrespectful. I don’t think it’s good sportsmanship.”
