Lost 69-66. Ashton Moore was too much late ... excellent player. We became too one dimensional on offense, and our interior defense was not good enough. Give the Bellhops credit.

Really interesting game. We had a good first half and came out for the second doing the right things. Went to the basket and scored; built the lead; and then watched The Citadel get hot and hit everything. Tough loss. It happens, but as we have been saying, the SoCon is going to have a lot of close games this year. We have been a little lucky so far. We have to put the pedal down and not let up.

This was a team loss. Players and coaches alike. We should have never let this team beat us, especially being up 14. Good bye unbeaten SoCon season. Goodbye at large opportunity. Saturday we have WCU and they are much better than Citadel. Two in a row? Very distinct possibility. Let's face it, with the exception of the second half at Chatty, we really haven't been that good in any conference game. Until tonight, we'd just been lucky. We ain't as good as you might think if you really look at things well.

They shot 64% from 3 (9-14). That's a lot of luck and not closing out on shooters. Some of the foul calls were complete garbage (the 4 pt play was particularly egregious when you could clearly see no contact whatsoever as were several plays where Citadel players slid underneath us to draw a weak charge call.

I agree about that foul on the three point shot. Terrible call. But we allowed them WAY too many open shots and second chance points due to offensine rebounds by them. We can't blame refs.

Hopefully this can end up being a positive by letting our guys know they aren't going to just show up and win every conference game. Maybe now we wake up to play to our potential. The way I see it, we will go in one of two directions now. We will lose again Saturday and start to spiral down, or we will take today's game as a wake up call and blow WCU out Saturday and reassert ourselves as top dog in the SoCon.

We're also not at full strength right now. We were down Cam Jackson and Eric Garcia. I don't think we lose if the latter is playing. With that said, Swinton played well. We just didn't play our game once we got up 14; we played content and Citadel played hungry.

Not every loss is bad, especially in basketball. It's hard to go undefeated in conference in any sport, as pretty much no team on the D1 level in football did this year, and neither has any basketball team accomplished that in a very long time. We have to remember that it's a marathon, not a sprint, and that our best basketball team we ever had had 3 losses during the regular season. Last year we got swept by 2 teams. We'll be back, the sky isn't falling yet.

I was there and am still in shock. We were up 11 most of the game, Moore got hot and Cochran went cold. Still, we had a 5-7 point lead. They lucked in a few prayers and got every bounce, call, and 50/50 ball late. We had no answer and had a few sloppy turnovers late. Very disappointing loss, but you would've thought El Cid just won a national championship the way they stormed the court and celebrated. I predict a very different outcome the next time we meet.

Hope this loss causes us to renew our focus. We need to get healthy and start playing at the level we were earlier in the season.

YT- Very good analysis. We have been doing a little sleepwalking early in the conference season, and have gotten away with it. The way we have started games has been ridiculous, but when you win you learn nothing. Perhaps a loss will give a little emphasis to this great group of guys. Having Eric back will be a great boost, and the other guards have gained great experience for the remainder of the season. We can use Cameron Jackson back also, to take a little pressure off the guys in the middle. It's a long season, and we need to make a few tweeks. That the Bellhops had the feeling that a win over us at home deserved a court storming tells volumes. The target it large on our chests, and we need to get used to it. The game tomorrow night is big. WCU still thinks they can play.

Swinton had a fine evening: 7 points, 7 assists, no turnovers. Skinner had a subpar game: one rebound. Cochrane lost his focus in the second half. Allen and Brooks could have been used more. Neumann solid, 6 RB's. But mainly, Citadel played a gangbuster second half. http://woffordterriers.com/news/2015/1/ ... ath=mbball

A bad Furman team just drubbed these guys by 12 in Charleston, 74-62, This is just more proof that we shouldn't have lost to them. I was having a hard time letting this game go as it was, and now this just adds fuel to that fire.
