The Southern Conference: deflating Big Ten egos since 2007. Go Terriers!

Yeah Michigan is probably our best matchup (perhaps with the exception of Nova). Wisconsin has bigs that would gash us inside- Michigan doesn't have that, at least to the extent that Wisconsin does. Pressure Stauskas on the ball (looking at you Cochran) and play fierce on the glass and we've got a shot. If you look at what MSU did to them today, they showed that if you can get in Michigan's cage and rattle them with tough, physical play, they'll settle for long jumpers and bad looks. Best case scenario is get their bigs (Morgan and Horford) in early foul trouble and crash the boards to eliminate second chance opportunities. After that, dial up the solid man pressure on their guards Stauskas and Levert. Look for Levert to matchup with Cochran as he's their best on-ball defender. They can also switch into a 1-3-1 defense which can be tricky if you're not prepared. Finally, we're going to need Skinner to avoid foul trouble and get his double-double and Spencer Collins to bring his offense that was sometimes missing in Asheville to have a shot. It's not a great outlook but, then again, 2-15 matchups never are. (Full Disclosure: In another life, I'm a die-hard UM fan, but this Thursday it's all Terriers! Go Wofford!)

ESPN showing the game time at 710 E.T. on Thursday (aprox). Wisconsin also plays in Milwaukee on Thursday. Maybe we will have a few leftover bandwagon fans rooting for us as well.

I think you will probably see Cochran on Levert and Collins on Stauskas. They height differential between Stauskas and Cochran might be too much to overcome though I think Karl could limit his shots for sure. We will be a big underdog, at least 15 pts I would think. That's just what we like. Solid D, limit possessions and turnovers and shoot reasonably well and we could be in it inside the last TV timeout. BYU had potent Offense too and we hung in for a long time in that one. This years team is better defensively IMO, but not as good offensively. Really need Collins to shoot better. He took a lot of bad shots in Asheville. Jaylen Allen and Garcia will once again need to be lights out from deep on kickouts. Hopefully we show up with our A game.

I'll take the matchup. It is better than some we could have gotten. We have a game so we have a chance. The longer Michigan lets us hang around, the better for Wofford. Just like Wisconsin in 2010. If we are in it late, the crowd will swing for the upset and then who knows...

Trying to find Wolverine fans' site (i.e. their Terrierfans.com equivalent) for Thursday's game; found this:

Hope it becomes more energized in next 3 days. If anyone else finds another UM forum, please add to these posts. Thank you!

I like the matchup. Michigan is very good but not invincible. We match up better against them than any other #2 seed, in my view.

As far as online goes, check out http://www.mgoblog.com as well as http://www.umhoops.com. Might be a bit more difficult to interact with Michigan fans on these larger forums than at a site like TerrierFans but they generally provide well informed game previews and statistical analysis, especially for being blogs. Here's the first article taking a brief look at our matchup http://www.umhoops.com/2014/03/16/notebook-michigan-will-start-wofford-prep-tomorrow/#more-59540. As for defending Stauskas, many Big Ten teams actually tried the smaller guard defending Stauskas and found some success (see the games with Yogi Ferrell @ IU and Roy Devyn Marble @ Iowa). Michigan's largely adjusted by screening more frequently and getting more pick-and-roll action with Morgan screening for Stauskas. I think the hard hedge we run at the top of the key on screens could be really beneficial in disrupting UM's timing, especially since they don't really have the presence down on the blocks to make us pay. Again, it'll depend on how tight of a game the refs call as we've been whistled for some cheap fouls on that hard hedge before and we can't afford foul trouble in a game like this.

Marble is 6'6" and quite honestly, I like the way Collins plays D on the perimeter. It may be a bit of a tag team anyway but I definitely see how a smaller, quick defender can limit his touches. He does dribble drive some when the outside shot is taken away but I think Cochran could definitely limit that.

Interesting to read these reports... I would say that Garcia has come along well since that Davidson game. I guess our baseball program is our most successful, if the only thing you look at is how many players in the MLB.

I was really hoping that Michigan would have the same respect for us as we have for Toccoa Falls. The less they think of us, the better off we likely are. While that might be true of many Michigan fans, it does not look to be true of the Michigan coaching staff from what I have read. They are not taking the game lightly.
