Here is the latest from Todd. The story gets even more awesome considering he was on no pain meds during the tournament.

For those of you that might not be aware, there is a great local sports show that airs in Spartanburg called Open Mic Daily. It airs weekdays from 3-6 on 105.7 FM The Source. You can also access it online and through Tune-In Radio anywhere. Mark Hauser is one of the hosts on the show. Anyway, I caught the end of them talking with Aerris Smith today. Aerris is doing well after surgery and he IS going to be traveling with the team. I am so glad to hear that.

Athletics trainer Alyss Hart unsung in Aerris Smith story

Friday, March 14, 2014 at 7:30 by Todd Shanesy

Aerris Smith’s hard work and determination to get through this basketball season with a severely injured knee has been well-documented and, thanks to the emotional interview with Wofford radio interview that went viral after the Southern Conference championship game, is nationally known.

But there is an unsung hero in the story.

Alongside Smith through the entire painful journey has been Alyss Hart, an assistant athletic trainer for the basketball team as well as women’s soccer.

“She’s had probably the biggest role,” Smith said. “She was the one who helped me, every day, maintain strength.."

Wofford's update on Aerris's surgery.

I googled his name and the list of sites that covered his story include ESPN, CBS, NBC, Fox Sports, Fox New, Yahoo Sports. SI and many others. Just a great story for everyone. Basketball fan or not.

I heard it live, but does anybody know if there is an archive of the interview Aerris did on the ESPN radio with SVP and Russillo?
