Elon game

Postby woffordgrad94 on Sun Feb 23, 2014 12:11 am

Time to put the Davy game behind us. That whole situation just simply is what it is. Next we travel to yet another lame duck conference foe that absolutely no one will miss when they depart in Elon. Or (f)Elon or E-Loan or whatever you wish to call this Duke/Yankee wannabe institution. The game is huge in that it will likely decide third seed in the tourney. That's big as the 3 seed will likely face a lesser foe that has already played a game. Now I am famed for my bluntness and candor and I will tell you right now that I don't think our team will go up there and win. I would predict a win if we could play them at home but we can't. Now I hope with all my heart that the team reads this post, gets furious and fired up beyond belief, and proves me more wrong than I have ever been before. Go Dogs!

'94, hope you are wrong as I know you do to. It will definitely be a fight. Tough but certainly winnable game with huge implications. Although we have clinched a bye, finishing 2nd in the conference would give us an easier path to the championship game. I'd love to get another shot at the Wildcats. Beating them in the tournament would be a great way to send them off to the A10.

I am putting my money on the Terriers in this one. Although we lost, we held Davidson to about 20 points less than their season average. Our defense is stifling right now and confidence is high.

For what it's worth, Elon dismantled Furman 78-49 tonight. They are a red hot team with a lot of momentum. We have a tough task Thursday, especially with us playing on the road again and coming off a loss we will have to brush off and totally put behind us.

Ugly game for the first 35 minutes, but we won! Carl was on fire the last few minutes of the game.

Final Wofford 63, Elon 59. It looks like with a win in our last game at home vs. UNCG, we should clinch 3rd place. This would be huge at it means we: 1) avoid a tough WCU team in Asheville in our first game, 2) we get a team that has already played the day before in our first game, and 3) we wouldn't play Davidson until the final if we both got there (the #4-#5 seed winner likely draws Davidson in the semis). There is a HUGE difference between being third and being fourth. So this is without a doubt the biggest win of the season. To shake off the Davidson loss and come through in a road game against a tough team that was riding a hot streak is a great job by the Dogs.

I am speechless !! Do not know how we won that one. But you have to give the Terriers credit. Even though they played terrible most of the game they never gave up and kept plugging away.

WOW! As ugly as it was, the defense kept them in it.

The best statistic of the night was that we went 22 of 27 (81.5%) from the foul line. Lee Skinner in particular was an impressive 13 of 15 (87%). Since our foul shooting has been a point of concern recently, this is a great sign. We won this game due in huge part to excellent free throw shooting. And if we hope to make a run in the tournament, we are going to have to continue to knock them down from the line.

Enjoyed sitting next to Boulder at the game tonite (a former veteran basketball announcer, no less, among his many other talents). We felt pretty good at the end of the first half, having shot only 22 % but down by just four. Our defense all night was tenacious. Intense physical game most of the night. We kept it close until late when KC hit a few bombs. Garcia hit a huge three late from the corner as well. Skinner kept us on his shoulders at key times. Really proud of our effort ... and we appeared to really be enjoying ourselves and taking care of business. An Elon fan volunteered that our defense was some of the best he has seen in a while. If we had shot the ball half as well late against Davidson, we would have beat them too.
