Samford 2/1

Crunch time in conference. The SoCon scheduling has been wacky, so I hope the crowed shows up to get the team fired up. I will be heading over in a little while.

Just tweeted out.

@TerrierTracker: Disappointed to learn that Wofford point guard Indiana Faithfull, whose playing time diminished, has quit the team.

Mark and Thom said they thought it was because he was homesick and just wanted to go back to Australia. also he was in good standing academically.

That is disappointing, but if his heart isn't in it, then it's time to move on. I hate that it didn't work out for him, but it just is what it is. I hope he finds what he's looking for and has success on and off the court, but leaving midseason does put us in a bind depth wise and scholarship wise as it will be hard to find a good replacement for the slot for next year this late in the game.

I am normally very skeptical of an early big lead, but this is being done with great defense followed by smart offense. If our guys play defense like this they can play with anyone. I, too, am sorry to see Indiana Faithful depart. He just never got things going in his favor-first the eligibility thing, and then he never could find his position. Best of luck to him. The team is really rolling.

Wofford 43, Samford 22 halftime. Samford did not have a field goal until 11:33 left in the half. The defense has been lock down. Wofford is also getting inside quite a bit. Too bad about Indiana, but we had better options, especially with tge emergence of Garcia. This is D-1 basketball and only the strong survive. We have to do what gives us the best chance to win as far as playing time goes. I do wish him the best in his future endeavors.

My best to Indiana Faithfull. He is a classy young man and had some excellent games for us. Hopefully he will change his mind, being only a little over a year from graduating. Either way, best to him.

The team seems to be clicking. There's no excuse for us to not be competitive in the next 5 games. They're all winnable. The emergence of Allen and Garcia has been huge. The big three of Skinner, Collins, and Cochran have been great the last few games.

Let's not forget that the 2010 Socon Championship game started out 10-10. We're in good shape, Mike Young has actually built a program here at Wofford, and regardless of how this season ends up, I am pretty confident that we'll finish with a winning record and that, and that we'll be a strong team next season. The lack of senior leadership can attribute to the inconsistencies of the last 2 years (only one senior this year and last year), but I think we're finally seeing everyone gel.

Also it looks like we landed a recruit tonight in Ryan Sawvell from Evansville, Indiana

Next year looks to be a year where we can make a strong bid for another tourney appearance. Unfortunately Davidson is most likely blocking us from doing so this year. I will be so glad when they are out of our conference. I have never been a fan of having non-football playing schools in the conference as they have a decided advantage in the other sports (and the so-called football team that Davidson has does not count- to me they really don't have one at all). But we have a great chance at winning the next five and finishing third or maybe even second in our conference and then advancing to the conference final this season in building toward next year.

I think we have a chance to be competitive with Davidson this year.

Let's remember, they aren't juggernaut they usually are. They've lost more games than we have so far. If we win our next 5, I can see us playing at a high level against them at their place with a good amount of confidence. Same with UTC.

Let's not do this next year crap, don't get me wrong I agree we'll be good this year, but I think this year could be a surprise as well by the way we're playing now.

http://gopurpleaces.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=2824 Sawvel is well-regarded 6-8 junior. Good student. His departure apparently sudden. Will be interested to learn whether he can play immediately - probably not. Hope he can and will play great D, like our other guys.
