And High Point, UNCA, and several other ASun schools. Had a nice resume of offers. Glad we got him. Biggest post player we have ever had?

Man, am I happy about the signing of Pegram. For you younger guys, Willie Pegram was a 6'8" post player in the mid 60's who was not only a solid player but a solid guy. Lawdog-Danny Morrison said Willie came back for the basketball reunion. If the nephew is half the man his uncle was he will be a great Wofford player!

As an aside, 6'8" PF Karl Gamble of AC flora just tweeted we are in his top 3 choices: us, Stephen F Austin , and MTSU. Will be taking visits to all this fall.

Very true, Willie is a genuine short-haired Dog and citizen, and always gave it his best ... one of our best big men ever.

Hey guys. I wanted to drop by to let you know that Matthew, and our entire family, is very excited about this opportunity. I have attached a link to give you a glance at your newest commit.

Thanks for the link LC Pops. We are so pleased that Matthew chose to continue his education as a Wofford Terrier; don't think he'll regret it. In addition to getting a superior education, he will be a great fit with the team Wofford has; they have a chance to do special things together. In addition, the coaches are outstanding and will do a careful job looking out for Matthew and developing his abilities. Tim Johnson, inside coach, is an inspiration. Mike Young and Dustin Kerns are straight up, real people, as is the rest of the staff.

I am also glad to have Matthew as part of the Terrier family. Welcome LC Pops. glad to have all of you as part of the Terriers. And here is a question about Willie Pegram. If he played in the mid sixties was he at Wofford from '67 to '71 ? Oops I am showing my age. I vividly remember a pickup game that I played in during that time when the center from the Wofford bball team was on the other side. I jumped as high as I could to grab a rebound and KABOOM something hit me that felt like a ton of bricks. Of course I lost the ball and it was the center who grabbed it. So if he was on the team between '67 and '71 then that was him. I thought he was more like 6'10" or 11" but I suppose I am mistaken.

Thanks for the warm welcome, gentlemen.

Loyal, I think Willie was class of '68. From what my dad tells me, the Kaboom sounds about right.

Willie was in my class of '68. At 6'8" he was a big guy then, and had a strong and solid basketball career. At that time Wofford was not in a conference, but played teams all over the region. There were some really good players both on our team and those against whom we played, like Dwight Durante, Henry Logan, Gene Littles-guys who could fill it up. Our team played at Andrews, where the team and the spectators had to share space. Coach Gene Alexander had a number of good teams over the years.

To me, 1967-68 was the year that might have been for Wofford basketball. The team had won over 20 games the year before and basically everyone was back - expectations were high. I was a green freshman walk-on. Willie was a senior, and I had my share of shot attempts swatted away by him in practice - could be a little intimidating. I saw Willie as a player who always played hard; a nice guy but all business in the paint.

Shortly before the first game, our leading scorer and most versatile and athletic go-to guy on offense Bobby Kendall (a senior I think) was one of four Wofford students killed in an auto accident in the mountains - a traumatic event for the school. (I'm sure Boulder recalls.) It was a blow to the team too. We still had some good players and nice wins, but missed Kendall and his spark.

I was lucky to have a chance to spend some time with Willie recently at the reunion, and got a better chance to appreciate his many fine qualities. He is retired in Florida from a career in business, and looks great. His grand nephew Matt looks a bit like him, and apparently plays hard like he did.

Thanks, LD for sharing that little piece of Wofford history. And the tragedy makes me sad even though I didn't know about it until now.
